is oiling supposed to be good or not

each time i oil my hair, i lose so many of them in the process of application. and then so many fall when in the shower (more than when no oil on).

whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

the only good it does is that hardly any hair falls out when i blow dry my hair afterwards … so it’s like oiling evens out the amount of hairfall during application and shower as opposed to when hair not oiled, and then blow-dried after shower!

ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
whats the use then :pcg:

Re: is oiling supposed to be good or not

Which oil do you use?

Maybe it's time to change your oil. Olive and mustard oil work best for me. But what works for one may not work for you.

Don't drench your hair in oil either. That can also cause hair fall. You don't want them to be soaking in oil, clogging your pores, making your hair fall, and potentially causing scalp acne.

And don't keep it on your scalp for too long either. I think 1-2 hours should be fine. You can try decreasing the time you keep it on your hair. And wash it out of your hair gently. You may need to wash it a second time, but do it gently. While shampooing, don't take your bottom hair and rub it on the crown of your scalp. This leads to tangles which can pull more hair out as you brush through the tangles.

Re: is oiling supposed to be good or not

i use a mix of this:

  1. mustard oil with those seeds in them … what do you call them … methi dana??
  2. castor oil
  3. roghan-e-kalonji
  4. vit. e

most is no.1, rest are in very little quantities .. it does make my hair feel healthy and shiny

how exactly do you apply oil? my arm is broken after i apply it. and yes it does feel like a lot on my head afterward … at one time, i use about 1.5 big tablespoons. i make section throughout my hair, and rub it on the scalp :bummer: … and kinda massage overall when done.

and i normally need to shampoo twice when with oily hair.

also .. i have a stange combination of hair. if i dont condition, then my hair is too dry after washing. if i do condtion, my hair is flat and very slightly oily after 35 hours. and i wash my hair 3 times a week.

what c an i do to make them less oily … and make them stay nice for a longer time … till until 3 years ago or so … my hair used to be frizzy and super wavy on the first day, and calm and nice on the second day after washing … so basically the second day used to be my good hair day … and now it feels like i should be washing it everyday :frowning: .. cant do that though … too much work.

i miss my super wavy hair :frowning: the texture of my hair has so drastically changed.

Farrah, methi dana is pretty strong and it has a garam effect. Kalonji has a garam effect. Most oils already have vitamin E in them anyway. The hair fall could even be from an excess of vitamin E (you’re putting additional vit E in there) And castor oil is so thick that it easily pull out your hair. Maybe you need to change the ingredients…take a couple of things out and keep it more simple.

You said that the oil feels like a lot on your head. Usually I’m able to get the oil out with one washing. So, don’t put that much oil on your scalp. You don’t need to put it on every square inch of your head. Once you start massaging…your fingertips will spread the oil around on your scalp…so you don’t need much to begin with. Keep the oil on for an hour. Get a good clarifying shampoo. Clarifying shampoos are designed to rid your hair of oil and other build-up. And I think that if you’re oiling your hair…you don’t need conditioner. Conditioner can weigh hair down and cause it to fall. Your oil servers the purpose of conditioning the hair.

I use Suave Clarifying shampoo. It works AH. It’s not pricey, it’s gentle, it gets the oil out, comes in a big bottle and lasts me a while.

Re: is oiling supposed to be good or not

if i dont condition … hair feels like dry strings. not nice to touch … and VERY difficult to comb through.

but i’ll simplify my oil mix … i only oil once a week … twice rarely. and i thought oil is supposed to be kept for 3 hours at least.

Re: is oiling supposed to be good or not

I would apply it on the lengths only and not the roots. This way you will get the conditioning but without needing to shampoo more excessively so so much of your hair shouldn’t fall out.

I actually think it’s the massaging that is causing it. Hair is gonna fall when it’s ready (completed it’s life cycle). If you oil and massage before washing you are helping the ones that are ready to come out and then they come out in the shower. When you don’t oil, the brushing etc helps it come out then instead.

As long as you’re not noticing MORE hairfall, I think it’s fine. I don’t think that you can expect less hairfall from oiling anyway; it’s more about moisturising the scalp and hair.

Re: is oiling supposed to be good or not

yaar baalon k sath wrestling na kia karo.softly rub /massage kia karo.

Re: is oiling supposed to be good or not

nah … m not really aggressive with the application. just trying to get it on everywhere. and yes, i think more hair fall out when i’ve oiled them …
hmmmmmmmmm … what other ways are there to have a healthy ad moisturized scalp … other than oiling?
