Re: Is Music Haram?
not all kinds of music is haram, it depends what type of music it is
we're are told to celebrate, sing and make merry when there's something good going on ie a wedding, birth, Eid etc.....so from this we can say tht music's not totally haram.
from what i've heard stringed instruments are haraam..only tambourine/duff is allowed...
and more recently i found out tht a simple hand-made guitar from natural materials is allowed, however i dont really know how true this as i havent read any hadith on it.
i think the reason music is not allowed is that it distracts us in a very negative way, makes us go on the wrong path....as it sort of intoxicates(not sure if tht's the right word)...we get so engrossed in it that we forget what goes on around us, and it's really addictive..
it also, to some point, influences some of us...say if we listen to sad music when we're sad we might end up being depressed or worse than we were before..
music sort of carries us away
what i've written is my personal opinion from what i've read in the past, i may be wrong.
