Re: Is “moun dikhai” still a thing?
Well, I’m punjabi and as far as I’ve known we’ve always had moun dikhai in the family. It’s not restricted to gold/diamonds for us though. The guy can give the girl whatever he likes but usually girls prefer jewellery so guys end up going for that.
In regards to if you should give him a present, i say why not? I mean moun dikhai to uski bhi ho rahi he na? lol. I mean sure the tradition is for the guy to give to the girl, but personally when i get married, I’ll give my guy a gift because it’s his special night too 
Just give him whatever you like and he’ll be pleasantly surprised
