Before answering lets do a little recap and review what happened when Bob Woolmer took charge of Pakistan team in 2004.

June 17th 2004

Javed Miandad has expressed his fury at the manner in which the Pakistan Cricket Board terminated his contract, describing the board’s actions as “unethical”, and adding that such hasty decisions hadn’t benefited the country or its cricketers in the past.

Despite his anger, Miandad wished Woolmer all the best in his new job. “I wish him the best of luck on his assignment,” he said. “It is going to be a tough one.”

June 17th, 2004

Bob Woolmer, Pakistan’s newly appointed coach, has offered an olive branch to his angry predecessor Javed Miandad, by asking for his help in carrying the team forward.

Woolmer, however, is keen to make his peace with a man who remains one of the most powerful figures in Pakistan cricket. “I know Javed is not a happy man at the moment, but I would like his input,” Woolmer told BBC Sport. “He would be very important in guiding me on how to run the show.”

**“I played against Javed, I’ve been to his house in Pakistan for a meal,and he would be very important,” Woolmer added. “It’s his decision, but along with others in the country his advice would be invaluable. It’s up to me to sift through the advice, and bring the whole of Pakistan cricket together.” **

July 3rd, 2004

Bob Woolmer has begun his tenure as Pakistan’s eleventh coach in eight years by asking for “the support of the current players, former players, and fans.”

“The current Pakistan cricket officials are determined to move their cricket forward,” said Woolmer, “so I joined the bus as they are willing to give me all out support, technical or otherwise. I can control what I can control, I am going to do my job to the best of my abilities and have no fears of the past.”

He has said before that he would welcome input from Javed Miandad, the man he replaced as coach, and today reiterated that point. “Javed has a lot to do with this particular team and therefore I would like to ask him and talk to him about it. That’s part of how I coach. I am not scared to bring other people on board. It’s important that the coach is open.”

December 14th 2004

Javed Miandad has come out strongly against Bob Woolmer’s coaching methods and is extremely sceptical about Pakistan’s chances in the Test series against Australia.

Miandad, who was sacked from the coaching position before Woolmer took over, pinpointed what he says are some basic flaws in the set-up. “When you are constantly experimenting with the team, when you are not sure about your playing XI and batting positions, when the coach is unaware of the particular cricket culture and psychology of Pakistan cricket, what do you expect?” Miandad told The News.

"It hurts to see a talented bunch of players struggle like this," Miandad said. “The problem lies in the fact that Woolmer doesn’t have any idea of our cricket culture and background. Read his statements and you know this is a man not confident and sure about what he is doing.”

Results, according to Miandad, were the bottom line in gauging a team, and he felt nothing much had changed ever since he was forced to step down. **“He [Woolmer] has been in the saddle for six months now and we are still as inconsistent and erratic. When I left, the team was among the top three in Tests and one-day internationals, although when I took over after the 2003 World Cup we blooded several new players. Since I left has there been any improvement in the rankings or our performances?” **

Elaborating on the coaching methods that he felt were ideal for Pakistan’s players, Miandad said, “Our players need to be told and coached things in a simplified manner. If you drop a batsman to even give him a bit of rest to recover from a bad patch he loses his confidence and forgets everything he has learnt while in the team. That is why Yasir Hameed is now struggling to score runs.”

December 16th 2004

Bob Woolmer has expressed his disapproval over Javed Miandad’s scathing criticism and termed it as “very disappointing”. Miandad had questioned Woolmer’s coaching methods and said that nothing much had changed since he took over as coach.

Speaking to the media on the eve of the first Test, Woolmer was blunt with his reaction. **“It’s very disappointing that a senior, very respected cricketer and past coach of the Pakistan cricket team comes out and criticises the team, the coach and everyone involved,” he said. “I find that rather disappointing coming from someone of his caliber.” **

Woolmer, who was blamed for experimenting too much with the side, found the remark even more confounding because Miandad had been in charge right before he took over. **“[They were] harsh words from someone who had the team before I took over. It’s like … criticising yourself. He’s not working with me, he’s not in the dressing-room, he doesn’t understand what I’m doing or what I’m trying to do, so he’s really saying things from outside.” **

Woolmer then spoke about working together and, refreshingly, didn’t limit it to cricket. “Quite frankly, if Pakistan were to get together and unite the forces and harness all the forces they had, it would be a much better country for it.”

So what do you think guys? I don’t think Miandad ever responded back to Woolmer’s offer atleast on 2 different occasions. Is it going to be different this time?

May be he will learn some modern coaching methods from a professional coach if he works with Lawson.

Working with Lawson could be mutually beneficial to both of the guys. But at least one will have to shut his mouth and concentrate on his work which is a big asking ;)

I was going to make a poll out of this situation. It is quite an interesting one. If Lawson offers him a batting consultant position, should he take this job, will he take this job? or his ego will come in his way by working under/with the man he only recently called unpatriotic?

It will be a bad mistake for Lawson. We now know Miandad to be a person with a sense of entitlement and huge ego. I will be surprised if he doesn't cause factionalism in the team as assistant whatever, and even if nothing happens, he's going to be difficult to get rid of once he has had some exposure to modern coaching and will be even more determined to become the Head coach :(

The ball is in Miandad's court. That's a great political move. Miandad's ego will not allow him to be a co-worker or PCB wouldn't appoint Miandad in the first place. Either way, Lawson should be in Miandad's good books now (at least that's what Lawson would be hoping)

We do need a batting coach, whether it is Miandad or someone else. I think this time it will work out.

Miandad is a joker .He made some statements two days before ,cursing Lawson ,now he is ready to help him .Did he have any shame ?.

Yes complete joker and a clown as a coach. Just because he thinks he was a good batsman and Viv Richards respects him does not mean anything as far as coaching is concerned.

Vic Richards was much better much better much better much better much better ...........batsman than this clown but how good was he as a coach himself?

Correction, Miandad actually was a great batsman. No kidding, you just can't take that away from him.
