Is Mannat allowed in Islam?

What is the concept of mannat in Islam. Are some forms allowed where others disallowed or is it totally against the Islamic injunctions. Please give your opinions with relevant verses/ahadith and stick to the topic rather then calling people mushrik etc.

The correct word is 'Nazar' while Mannat is an Urdu word for it, as far as my knowledge is concerned. Now Nazar is totally Islamic and in fact Quranic, we read two episodes of Nazar in Quran, please read (3 :35) and (76 :7-8).

Re: Is Mannat allowed in Islam?

hmm interesting. I always do mannats when I have to ask Allah for something important. but insha'Allah will try and find more info on it and reply.

there are two terms used.

  1. nazar.
  2. nyaz.

nazar is jaiz (allowed) but only for allah not other than allah.
niaz is innovation bidat it is not allwed in islam.

Re: Is Mannat allowed in Islam?

the question was of mannat...can we all for a change stick to the topic.

Let's talk about making mannats and if they are allowed in Islam.

this tradition was from hz. ibrahim as era, and a place in kaba called "cave of Kaba" used for this purpose, ppls come and make their mannat to allah and throught money and other things to cave of kaba, which called treasuer of kaba, in prophet's pbuh era such cave was closed and khazana-e-kaba transfered to a sahabi's home.

going to a cave for mannat! is that not shirk?

cave of kaba is part of kaba, and you may make mannat any where in world but it should be with allah not any body els.
