Is make up deception?

I was listening to this menninist talk and he was going on about how make up was deception, i don’t really believe that but what about you guys?

Re: Is make up deception?

In my opinion, light make up which enhances your features isn’t deception, but the kind of makeup which changes facial features is deception.

Re: Is make up deception?

Some say it’s an art so it can’t be deception? As a guy i know nothin about make up but I can tell you that a lot of girls are unrecognizable without make up

Re: Is make up deception?

Agree!!! I’ve always felt that if you’re using makeup to carve out cheekbones that you don’t have…and slim down your nose to where it looks markedly different than the one you were born with…it’s deception. I’ve never felt comfortable with it.

Re: Is make up deception?

But that’s real common these days. They call it contouring or something, apparently it’s an artform.

Re: Is make up deception?

What’s menninist?

If you’re contouring with the intention of making a guy thinking you have those cheekbones, a slimmer nose or whatever else then I suppose it could be deception.. but then again plenty of girls just do it for themselves..

You could say the same about some clothing, things that can make you look slimmer or enhance your curves..

Re: Is make up deception?

It’s art, so it can’t be deception? Lol…wth? If you take raw materials like paper or clay and create something from it…I don’t see that as deception because in most cases the final product will not be reverting back to its original form. Whereas your face will revert back to the real you once the magic of all those artificial pigments is scrubbed off.

Re: Is make up deception?

I was shocked to see how common it was in Pakistan when I visited last year.
Carving cheekbones, slimming the nose as well as putting on fake lashes.
Do you consider covering up scars ,marks and dark circles under the eye as deception too ? I’m torn regarding that.

contouring and highlighting.

Re: Is make up deception?

^Ugh that reminds me of something..

My cousin has vitiligo and used makeup to cover up a patch on her chin (she doesn’t have it extensively).. it’s something she always does..

She met a guy duing rishta talks but he called the whole thing off when he found out..

Would that be considered deception?

I don’t think it was a deliberate attempt to mislead but I do think she probably should have told him..

Contour and highlight is all over Instagram.. Most of the girls I follow do it, like Kim K..

Re: Is make up deception?

Hmm. It’s tricky, isn’t it? The way I see it…if you cover up dark circles and marks, it’s like saying… “This is what I would look like if these blemishes weren’t there…if I ate better…if I tried to get more sleep…if I was less stressed…etc.” But when you carve out non-existent cheekbones and slim your nose down, it reads more like…“This is what I’d look like if Allah Miyan had created me differently.”

Re: Is make up deception?

Menninist = Male feminist.

I don’t think clothes are conparable cause you can usually tell somebody’s figure no matter how hard they try to to configure it.

Re: Is make up deception?

^ pretty sure spanx is a billion dollar company.
and they have the potential to change a lot.

Re: Is make up deception?

Yeah but you can naturally change your figure to an extent. Fat people can lose weight, skinny people can bulk up and build muscle, you can work out and build muscles and grow parts of your body in mass however no matter what you do you can’t naturally change the bone structure of your face, save for an accident but you can’t alter your face.

Re: Is make up deception?

Also changing your body isn’t as bad as altering your face, there’s a reason why your face is on all forms of ID and not your body because your face is is your ID not your body fat %age or size of your biceps lmao.

Re: Is make up deception?

Spanx is like makeup but for your body. It alters it and it makes you look sleeker. Kinda like a body contour.

No doubt you can alter your body by exercising but when you stay in shape your face also changes as well. You lose the double chin and the chubbiness.

Re: Is make up deception?

You would have to be a moron to look at pink sparkly eyelids, blinding highlight, spider fake-lashes, and an uber filtered looking face and think it was realistic to how the person looked w/o makeup. People doing those type of dramatic transformations with makeup on instagram is one type of ~trickery~ but in real life you can easily tell whether or not the makeup used by the person is excessive and where the contouring and nose slimming is done.

Re: Is make up deception?

What a really apt analogy! :k:

Re: Is make up deception?

You lose the flub lol you don’t change your bone structure.

Also about this spanx thing, I’m hearing about it for the 1st time us guys don’t wear stuff like that lmao.

Re: Is make up deception?

Forreal tho, most of us guys can’t tell. Wallahi. I can only notice when they don’t wear make up and see a noticeable difference.
