If not, based on your preferences, stay away from Lahore.

so you better stay where you are, trust me, salt lake city is no where comparable to Lahore.

There is no comparison between Salt Lake City, Utah and Lahore.

To put it into perspective - it has the population like NYC, heat like Florida, traffic like Jersey and you have to street smart like in Mexico City to survive.

It has a lot to offer in terms of services (but expensive - schooling, transport) but you may find yourself overwelmed. The people who love Lahore are people who have been a part of city since birth or childhood and have deep family ties into the city.

As a visitor, if you don't know anyone it's a bit overwhelming. There is no organized public transport. You can use a taxi and ricksaw in some area but they won't venture out to all parts of Lahore. As far the historical monuments, there are plenty but not developed for tourism. I suggest you go with a group of people. If you are imagining, waking up - taking a taxi and seeing the Red Fort by yourself and catch lunch by yourself, I would suggest against it.

Like rizla mentioned - if you have $, you can buy most luxuries of life. - even friends.

I know a number of people who lived in Lahore for a long time (most of their childhood) but have moved out because it's just too crowed and congested now.

You will find trash on the streets for sure. Maybe not in certain areas but mostly anywhere else. It's not like Islamabad, with the wide clean roads and an image to maintain. People can have the nicest houses but not give a crap about the street outside and you will see piles of garbage outside the gate. Maybe they didn't put it their but they don't care to get it moved.

Actually, Islamabad is quiet but as a westerner, I'd choose to live there. It will be the most familiar to you. I also like all the greenery and surroundings and stuff, night-life doesn't interest me so much.

I'd recommend going for a holiday and visiting a few cities.

Lahore is a heart of Punjab every one like to live Lahore.this is a good place to live here. Lahore has historical good point of view.

like you said your fiance is a successful businessman, he must be living in a better area.

Life is great here if you dont have financial issues.servants,drivers,cooks,generators to combat loadshedding can help you overcome any basic difficulties. you can have memberships of gymkhana/royal palm/oasis and enjoy life !

lahore is an excellent place to live,if you are earning quite good in the city.Defence is a superb area,organized and with cool stores,like HKB,alfateh,khaddi,frilz.there are plenty of coffee shops to chill in the evening.superb schools like grammer,scarsdale in defence.so DEFENCE itself is a city:D plus last time i saw custom build homes in phase V,where u dont need a massi to do all the dishes:hehe: so if u have money ,its a heaven with a spa:@:

DHA Lahore is more posh than most of the housing societies in Flint, MI. That's what the other poster was implying, I'm sure.

If you are willing to spend money to get yourself into the privileged class you will see that life is not very unkind to you no matter what city you live in :)

When I visit Lahore, usually for several days, I normally stay in the Gulberg area. This is a very vibrant and trendy part of town. It has a lot of eating out places and character.

i like to visit Lahore for short visits(shopping is great!) but for me..islamabad is the best place to live in Pakistan!:)
