Re: Is Jacques Kallis the Greatest Allrounder ever?
Compare the quality of the bats as well. The bat Sobers is holding is clearly inferior ... looks like a plank of wood
Note also the cultural differences. While Sobers looks nice and relaxed, someone who is having fun and really enjoying hitting those sixes, Yuvraj on the other hand looks tense and sullen. Didn't look particularly happy even after hitting 6 sixes!!

^ That's cuz it's high stakes broo!! WC! And he had just had a verbal fight with Flintoff so part of it was just " aao tumjhe batata hoon saalon" haha.
I have not seen much of Sobers so not sure what kind of onfield personality he was but Yuvraj always has the tiger eyes! He is almost always fired up. Even when he sucks!
Re: Is Jacques Kallis the Greatest Allrounder ever?
look at the post 38. kallis name doesn't even appear there, while Sobers is in there twice. Just because a player is no longer playing doesnt mean he is not great. Nostalgia has got nothing to do with it. You are entitled to your opinion I am to mine and Kallis while being very good is nowhere near Sobers.
Agree on we all are entitled of our opinion. But regarding post#38, those days teams played test series comprising of 5-6 match a lot. So it was easy to get to 400 run and 20 wickets. So that record is bunch of malarkey :) .
I will make some additional points...
1) If you are bowling with likes of Alan Donald, Pollock , Nitini, Steyn and Morkel likelyhood of you getting too many wickets is very less. These buggers dont leave anything for Kallis. During Sobers days, West Indies had mediocre attack. He had more opportunities to take wickets.
2) How many different type of cricket Kallis has to excel at ( T20, ODI, Test) and he did awesome in all these format.
3) Not to forget how much is at stake in cricket these days and the pressure under which they play.
Look, I am not saying Kallis is better than Sobers. But he is up there with him followed by like of Keith Miller, Imran Khan and Botham.
Re: Is Jacques Kallis the Greatest Allrounder ever?
Interesting. Was way before I started following cricket. I distinctly remember the name Ian Woolridge - one of the men who paid tribute. I recall reading Woolridges writings I think.
Anyway I think I was referring to Geoff Miller. An off spinner and # 8 batsman for England I think late 70s to early 80s.
