I have always thought that why in the first place we needed to believe in something. Is it not understanding our own self, or is it to conquer the fear, fear of the unknown. May be it is the basic human nature of insecurity… insecurity caused by the fear. Fear of losing our self, fear of not belonging. To belong and to be part of the “ever living”, is it for this reason we believe.? Man is so afraid, in its core, he knows he is not ever lasting… Being mortal he thinks every thing is mortal and he puts a limit on everything. He is always afraid of END, his own end and the end of where he exists. Is this fear has taken on to him so powerfully that he is believing in.?
For the last 4000 years or so (may be more) the religions (a human interpretation of a set of believes) with their entire positive out put have changed the psyche of the believers in a faith. The have conquered their eternal fears, on the surface may be, but to become the part of the eternal and the everlasting being, the price they are paying is having its toll on the over all human race. The religions did develop the human psyche, on the very basic fundamental of give and take. But now if you see, after almost 4000 years their potential for giving is exhausting and it’s taking more and more.
Man has a limited vision, that’s nothing to be ashamed off, you can not see beyond a certain distance, but would that be the end, or the end of “vision”. “The world would end at 2000, the apocalypse, the day of Judgement, the Nurg, the paradise”. Why these limits are required by believe…are these good for the human psyche developed by the religions for its own existence?

Religion is a group forming mechanism, formed to get comparative advantage over other similar groups. It is headed by group of people who benefit in terms of power and money (actually their livelihood depends on having critical number of followers) and they will do anything to manipulate human beings to follow their interpretation of God hell and heaven. Otherwise they are out of business and will have no power or money.
Human beings have a need to belong to a group and historically religion fulfilled this need. In this age of mass media and awareness new group are being formed such as enviormentalist ,professional groups such as professional engineers, phyisicians etc. and they have replaced religion in fulfilling this basic group forming need of human beings. This is one of the reason that in developed countries hold of religion getting weak.

Something like collective fear, in a group, you are very right. The reason behind formation of groups was, and is the fear. But after the formation of these groups limitations were imposed.
The power of limitations is such that after all this period, the religion has placed an invisible block on our thoughts. Whenever we try to bring our heads up from that line, sounds like “Oh forgive me .......” come from underneath. We dip down again, its like progressing from a fear of unknown to the fear of known. Which I thing is more acceptable for the physique developed under believes. Taking the evolution out of the process of good and Bad (which has always remained relative to time). I will do good because this way I will get good, it’s like looking for a reason or a prize before committing to good. Good & bad, which is always changing but invisible to us.
As soon as we believe, a thought was embedded in us of being righteous. The rest who were just like us a moment ago are now the non-righteous (or what ever), hence >>comparative advantage<< is assumed. Suddenly the direction of fear is changed, now it’s the non-righteous, from whom we should fear.

This discussion is too deep for you to understand....I don't think I can help you. If you have sincere desire to understand and analyze human behavior start with reading about other religions, history of mankind and Psychology.

Read and think about other stuff. like why India is hiding and depriving Sikhs of their religious relics/books for last 17 years? Don't tell us it was only Indra Gandhi, as half a dozen non-gandhi govts have changed in the past 10 years.
God is nothing but a reflection of man's fear of the unknown. Religion is a collection of associated paraphernalia, and often lays down the standards of morality to its followers. Religions which make an amusing study, provided you look at them objectively.
the most obvious screw up with religions is their no-questions-please attitude. probably in messed up times, it helped if people didnt question the rules.. such blocks to free thinking certainly have a negative effect on the pace with which the human psyche evolves.
another thing that i hate about religions is their tendency to make people more and more narrow-minded, thought it claims to do the opposite. Religions divide much more than they unite.
Surely, something that curbs the use of our gift of free thought and splits mankind into hostile segments cannot be for our good. Religion is just another cheap divide like race or color.
I agree with your negative aspects of religion my intent was to explain why human beings created religion in the first place. I think it is a political movement like any other meant to form a group to compete aganist other similar group. When one group becomes too big splinter groups are formed within the group. Our modern time religions are communist idealogy started by Karl Max, envoirnmentalist movement etc. the followers of these movement have similar zeal and commitment to match any other older religions.
