Is it wrong ethically/morally?

salamz all,

I am a programmer by profession, alhamdolillah. I take projects online on contract as well. Now, recently, someone requested to help them on a project they are working on. I responded and now it turns out that it is their school assignment that they needed help with.

Now that I know, do you think its ethically/morally/professionally ok for me to help him and also get paid for it?

Thanks,
J

Keep friend ship from business.

Re: Is it wrong ethically/morally?

Thanks for responding.

I don't think I even know this person at all. They contacted me via an online portal.

Re: Is it wrong ethically/morally?

hey just tel thm the procedure i mean hints for assignment ... wont solve it for them ..let them do all coding ... ...else they mgt get goood grades in project bt nt in paper

Re: Is it wrong ethically/morally?

nah not wrong...go for it. But dont start doing all their work for them...just help them.

Re: Is it wrong ethically/morally?

^ i second it.
dont do the entire thing....cuz they might be ur future competitors.

Re: Is it wrong ethically/morally?

how can he b the future competitors :emmy: , itna acha student ho tou khud he karai assignments

Re: Is it wrong ethically/morally?

may be not,u must not do it for them. u can help

Just a little bit help is fine but don't do it for them.

Re: Is it wrong ethically/morally?

Guidance is fine.... but don't give them the whole code.... and if you do, miss out some semi colons or brackets in the code so they can spend hours debugging it themselves :D

Re: Is it wrong ethically/morally?

Students get help from their teachers/friends/parents for their projects. As long as you're not doing the ENTIRE project for this student, then you're fine. It's okay to ask for help but the student needs to learn how to do the project as well or he's not going to accomplish anything in the long run.

And, no, I don't think it's unethical for you to ask for money. It's fair enough. After all, you are taking time out of your busy life to help someone and there's nothing wrong with being paid for that. Teachers *get paid to help students. * Private tutors get paid to help students. There are many businesses that help people and get paid for it (doctors, lawyers, therapists, etc).

Help this student out...AND at the same time TEACH him how to do it. And get paid for taking the time to help and educate him.

Re: Is it wrong ethically/morally?

o another thing.
ask him why he need it to be done by someone else :bummer:

may be he is taking overload and cant handle the stuff.

ps. when someone has deregulated fees then sometimes they are bound to take overload :crying:

the student may not be a genius but he knows the value of time and has a good business sense. He knows that he does not need to know everything if he is willing to pay for the services. I say charge him the full price and do a great job for him

Re: Is it wrong ethically/morally?

^^

Well said. While I was pursuing my college, this was the norm. I got my projects done from people whom I did not even know. I paid them money for it. But before the project viva, I had to really cram :smack:

Looking back I think I did the right thing. I was studying something which I was not particularly interested. The options were limited. I was doing my Electronics eng, but was interested in software..
