From your observation, is it true that when you attend a dawat of a middle class household (who may not have the biggest house or 1+ cars) they pay MORE attention to the food served at the party than if you attend a dawat of a wealthy family? The wealthier family may have it catered or just not pay as much attention to the food because they have a nice house to show for?
You are hilarious. It is so true though. I come from middle class family of Pakistan , the only dawats I remember happening in my family were for , shadi , walima and chaleeswaan.
The context it was being discussed was kind of "generalizing" that middle class people very much care about the food served and they want their guests to remember them by the food. While richer people won't care as much about the food served because they have other things for their guests to remember them by.
This context is wrong because , rich folks will invite other rich folks and those rich folks will have somewhat same kind of homes and stuff in their homes as other rich folks have.
Also this might work for first impression , rich folks have parties on regular basis therefore if someone is a regular at their parties the food would surely matter after the first impression.

the food served to them is also considered dawat.......right?:D
Actually, those dawats turn out to be the best :D

I agree. Also, it depends on what you think is good food. I have seen some Pakistani ladies in our community, (who's hubby's are the docs and such) that no matter how much they try, they just can't make good food. Nothing wrong with that, but that's when you cannot generalize. Since she is trying to make an effort to put good food on the table, but it may not meet our taste-buds.
hum loog high class sai tallauq rakhtey theey, dawat ker ker k middle class main aagaeey hain
On Serious Note:
I think that depends more on person’s everyday life style. If someone love cooking in regular days for household (and can cook for large gathering), they normally cook for dawats too irrespective of the class they belong to
when i attend any dawat my focus is food i dont mean tht there should be huge stalls but quality should be focus n salads n chutneys n all sauces r must for me
