It has been suggested by some people, President Musharaf should forget about worrying about the elections this year and impose emergency rule. Pakistan needs to concentrate on the fight against the terrorists that have taken so many innocent lives and declared war on Pakistan. Pakistan govt. needs to concentrate its efforts 100% to fight against this menace without any distractions?
Is there an element of sense in this, or should Pakistan have the elections on time?

Pakistan must have elections... Only a free and fair election that produces a govt with broad spectrum of support can take on this menace... Oh and the Military has to be an actual military now and do what its made for.

No emergency wont help. What we need is govt with legitimacy and credibility which unfortunately these in charge now don't have.

The track record of Nawaz Sharif and BB is not very encouraging, so I dont support any free and fair election. If we have always been riging the election against the interest of Pakistan so lets have this time for the interest of Pakistan.
I think election should be held in time and Musharraf should make any suitable alliance between MMA with present ML (Q) or PPP whatever, with the condition of making Fazle Rehman diesel as PM of Pakistan and Musharraf to remain as president in uniform for another two or three years.

There will not be any free and FAIR elections in Pakistan anytime soon. Why kid ourselves?
Any emergency rule will just turn more people ag/ Musharraf and give more reason to people to support the opposition.
Its a sticky situation.
Only way to get out of it - is to start providing idiot hormonal 18 year old boys some economic opportunity and education, so they spend their testosterone on hitting on the girls in their classes, rather than firing ak-47's at the Pakistani military, because my God, they have a JIHAD to fight against people who have no problem with them being muslims and reading their 5 namazein!

I have faith. Wheneve they are held, the elections will be free and fair. Whether people accept them or not is another matter.

Whilst Pakistan is under attack by terrorists it may pertinent that the President delays elections for upto 1 year - which is allowed in the constiitution. Elections this year may divert our attention in the struggle against the terrorist menace, and allow these murderers to regroup whilst people are electioneering.
**(6) While a Proclamation of Emergency is in force, [250] [Majlis- e- Shoora (Parliament)] may by law extend the term of the National Assembly for a period not exceeding one year and not extending in any case beyond a period of six months after the Proclamation has ceased to be in force. **

You must be joking mate. Fazle Rehman as PM? It would surely do wonders for our faltering image abroad won't it? Why not have Sheikh Rashid Halwai instead as PM?
