Is it the heart or the brain?

“Mein tumhe dil sey pyar karta hoon” OR “I love you from all my heart”

I was watching a movie where one girl’s heart was transplanted into another girl’s body when the first girl died. Now the second girl (with the new heart) was always pulled towards the first girl’s husband just because she had his wife’s heart. Then I was discussing this with my friend and we got into a discussion. Her point was that you love someone from the heart and it’s possible that you get pulled towards someone your heart loves (without knowing, just like in the movie) and my point was that the heart is just a blood pumping organ. It has nothing to do with love. Maybe our brain has two sides? One thinks wisely and the other side is what we call “thinking by heart”? But all the heart does is it pumps blood in and out and has no feelings just like legs, arms, lungs. etc.

Share your thoughts on it.

jab mohabaat main nakami hotee hai tow kehtay hain dil main takleef hote hai, koi connection tow hoga na bhai sahab :clown: Earlier I thought that it is used metaphorically but on deeper analysis I found out that there is a link between the love lost and heartbreak.

Let the experts come and post their precious pearls on this issue.

All girls think alike :stuck_out_tongue: That’s exactly what my friend said and my answer was:

Personally, I don’t think if your heart aches then it’s because of lost love or anything like that. Yes you have pain in your heart but that’s because so much is going on in your brain, that has effects on the blood flow and the rest of the body, your heart aches because of that :halo:

“cellular memory” bhaiyon. turns out that certain emotions are stored in your heart and may even be transferred during a transplant.

wah wah!

unfortunately for us romantics, they may also be transferred during a lung transplant :bummer:

there is a connection between your heart and your feelings

apka brain tou nahi bata ta na k iss say pyaar kero...dil bata ta...its a fact...mein jub kisi ko hurt keron tou mujhe dukh hota hai aur i can feel it in my heart....agar mujhe koi hurt kerey tou phir bhi dil mein feel hota hai....dimag nahi bata ta k hmmm iss nay tumhara dil tora iss liyay ro....khudi rona ata hai...

agar kisi ko heart kee problem ya koi aur serious problem ho tou doctors aisay kyun kehtey hein k khush reha kerein agar sad rehey gey tou dil ko nuksaan ho ga....agar kisi ko brain kee problem ho tou kabhi kisi doctor nay nahi kaha

aur bhi examples hein liken baad mein:p

The only reason your heart feels different when your sense of love is stimulated is that it starts pumping more blood.

The actual emotion is felt due to the release of chemicals in the brain.

no! its cellular memory dammit

That isnt entirely true. There is some fascinating research on the heart being done currently. I would suggest reading some science magazines/journals about it, you will be surprised, just as I always am. (When I make time to read such stuff, which is rare.) Insha'Allah. smile

p.s. There is a reason Allah mentions the heart over and over in the Qur'an. It's a mystery that scientists have only recently started to explore. smile

THANK YOU!

Ravage We know it’s not true :hoonh:

DJ Like I said before, it’s not due to the heart. When doctors tell someone to stay happy because he/she has serious heart illness, that’s because the doctors want the brain to function normally which will cause the other organs function normally which will produce more blood cells and then there will be enough blood to go through the heart.

When someone breaks up or someone is hurt, the brain is affected, the brain gives signals to other body organs, including the heart, and it cause more/less blood go though the heart. Therefore, in my opinion, heart is just an organ, brain does the signals.

Munni jee smile

Bingo. One of the side effects of the chemicals that certain parts of the brain release to cause the emotional reaction in another part of the brain is to increase blood flow - ie increasing the beating of your heart. The nearves around your heart pick up on this and thus you "feel" love in your heart (actually, you only feel your heart's reaction to chemicals released by the brain).

This is why emotional imbalance (eg depression) can be chemically treated. Every single emotion that you feel in your life is nothing more than a couple of chemical being released in your brain, and your brain and body's entirely physical reaction to those chemicals.

but what about cellular memory? i had such plans for living forever by hijacking someone else's body, preferably someone who gets more action.

in some cultures people love with their liver.

I love with my lungs and ribs as well

I don't know much about what science would say about this matter or how the common sense should prevail in this case.

However, just to look at a different angle over this matter, I have thought about it myself a lot. At the end, I asked to myself why not seek knowledge from the wisdom of the one who made us, our hearts, our souls, our brains?

May be He had assigned more functions to these simple organs than what we know so far. May be we will someday realize through science more about it.

Then, I looked at the teachings of the last prophet (SAW). Whenever I came across any hadith that talked about love of Allah vs love of this world, I realized heart, Qalb, was the target of attention.

I had been the student of a (late) scholar, and he taught me how to make prayer by holding both hands together near to heart because Allah's light resides in our hearts.

Then, I came to know that shaitan whispers in the heart not in the brain.

Then I came across with following ayas:

26:89 "But only he (will prosper) that brings to Allah a sound heart;

37:83 Verily among those who followed his Way was Abraham.

37:84 Behold! he approached his Lord with a sound heart.

That showed me the position of heart in my faith.

I have learnt that Allah will not see our faces on the day of judgement but our Hearts. There must be a reason that brain won't be bothered to look at.

neither...it's the damn wang..

hmmmmmmm

I think its the takhna:halo:

now figure out what takhna means :halo:

Ankle :clown:

Anyway, I am right, heart doesn’t have feelings itself, it’s the brain that releases chemicals and sends out signals. ThankYouVeryMuch :snooty:

iss ka matlab madscientist to dil ka bhi acha nahi :bummer:

The heart is just a symbol for love.
