If we see dances in which there is nudeness ,I understand it is sin. But if the dancer is covered more than required ;as it is recently being shown on ARY and Geo Tv and it is done on old literary poetries. And the movement of the dancer are also very sophisticated, and is very slow, it does not cast the attention on any of the body part of the dancer. Would it be also taken as sin or as a part of the culture?
If to see this also is sin? Then how come the culture of a nation bears any meaning. What is then is included in place of dance in the culture of Pakistan?
I agree Matsui. I know I wanted to when I saw kirmani doing god knows what. its very disturbing and you get the feeling that she is expecting you to do something in return, like maybe clap or show appreciation at the right parts. how am i supposed to do that?

show appreciation at the right parts.

Based on the first post, no 'parts' are shown, thus no appreciation for the 'right parts' is required. Tell Ms Kirmani, the next time you see her. You are welcome.
now i cant rem any quranic ayat on the spot here, but as long as something is not explicitly forbidden in Islam or something cannot very logically be connected up to forbidding it, then I dont think dance is disallowed.
A lot of people like to interpret Islam the other way, that is as long as something that most people enjoy is not explicitly allowed through Islamic logic, they will consider it disallowed.
I find this as much bending and filling your own interpretations in Islam, as a more liberal way of looking at it.
Often the ayats quoted are so very vaguely related to what the topic is about.
Khiar, it would be nice to see what Islamic references can be brought up to ban dancing in a segregated setting.
I dont think are no restriction in dancing as long as modesty is considered and your modesty is not compromised by being in any situation that one deem to propage compromise.
But you have to use your conscious to guide your thoughts, your actions and your words. No matter what anyone says, you will have the last word. The account is between you and your God. You have to be sensible and transparent not to break his laws. And his laws are very clearly pointed in the Quran.
If you put yourself in a situation that might compromise your faith and morals, you will have to be strong enought to get yourself out ASAP. This is hard, no doubt. But best move is the pre-emptive move; that you should never put yourself in a compromising situation no metter what joy you might get out of it.
