Is it safe to work in Karachi?

Do I risk my life traveling from point A to point B in that city? What is the situation generally like? Do I pay for my own petrol and my own generator to get electricity? Is there central airconditioning available in the apartments? Running water? Is there a substantial risk of home invasion/burglary/theft if I live in a high-income area?

Re: Is it safe to work in Karachi?

If you are so naive then do not move to Karachi. Karachi will eat you alive. :D

Re: Is it safe to work in Karachi?

Karachi is not for you if you are that much conscious :D

Re: Is it safe to work in Karachi?

If you bribe them, it will come.

Re: Is it safe to work in Karachi?

the Question should be: is it safe to travel to Pakistan?...seriously!

Re: Is it safe to work in Karachi?

u wont make it to point B u will be shot dead by the doodh wala and ur home will be blown to pieces by ur maasi. and u will hav to go and hunt bakras on the road with a knife to eat and light fires with sticks because theres no gas

Re: Is it safe to work in Karachi?

The question is simple enough and merits a straightforward answer. I've heard stories about the place and the news media is reporting heavy casualty figures over the last year. These all are legitimate concerns warranting some insight by those living in Karachi!!

Re: Is it safe to work in Karachi?

When you already know the answers then why bother to ask. Thank you.

Re: Is it safe to work in Karachi?

Make sure you have a valid visa for working in karachi

Re: Is it safe to work in Karachi?

You are a stalker why are you so worried about crime situation. :D

Re: Is it safe to work in Karachi?

Come on, have mercy on Stalker. The person requested a straightforward answer so he should get one. Although I do admit it was funny to read all the dry sarcasm - he he :).

Ok let see:
Do I risk my life traveling from point A to point B in that city? I don't think it is that bad. Last time I was visiting my sister there, there were a lot of curfews and 'political unrest' so everyone did stay home.
What is the situation generally like? Generally, as compare to other cities in Pakistan, I remember it was nicer.
Do I pay for my own petrol and my own generator to get electricity? I am not sure what you mean by pay for my own petrol? Own generator. That might not a bad idea as I have heard of the 'load shedding' a word they use for black outs.
Is there central airconditioning available in the apartments? I have not seen any apartments in Karachi with central air conditioning. That was about 9 years ago, so maybe there are some now.
Running water? I doubt that will be too often a problem.
Is there a substantial risk of home invasion/burglary/theft if I live in a high-income area? I doubt that also.

By the way, are you considering Karachi for a career there?

Re: Is it safe to work in Karachi?

I smell fish ! and its not even my armpits,,, :D

Re: Is it safe to work in Karachi?

Yes, I am considering Karachi for a career move. I love the general environment of the city but it's the law and order situ and basic infrastructure (or the lack of it) that bothers me a bit...more insight is useful..specifically, can you use generators in the apartments? are they powerful enough for an AC (like a window unit)? Do you pay for your own tankers to get water?

Re: Is it safe to work in Karachi?

Good apartments have got heavy duty common generators - other use their own when there is a load shedding. There are hardly any centrally air-conditioned apartments in the city. But those new developments of the the Creek City might have. Check their website.

You are supposed to live in DHA/Cliton - these are relatively peaceful area. Law and order is not bad there.
