Is it Safe to use a Wrinkle Cream in Your Early 20's?

I’m 24 and don’t have wrinkles…but I heard good stuff about using olays regenerist wrinkle cream for hydration, but I’m not sure if using a wrinkle cream so young will be bad for my skin and give me premature wrinkles? Or make my skin look bad or older once I stop using it? Any thoughts?

here is the post I read it on:

Re: Is it Safe to use a Wrinkle Cream in Your Early 20's?

i havn't used olay so don't know how thick it is but the % of claimed anti-aging ingredients r very low in regenerist products. So u can use them safely. i think its a good idea to start at 24. other preventives r of course moisturizing oils like sweet almond, coconut, joboba, sun creams, vit C and E etc.

Re: Is it Safe to use a Wrinkle Cream in Your Early 20's?

I think most anti-aging products are gimmicky. Unless it's stuff like Retin A or SPF, most stuff isn't going to perform magic. Dryer areas tend to age the fastest and keeping them moisturized should be good. Add in SPF and you could potentially cut premature wrinkling.

Re: Is it Safe to use a Wrinkle Cream in Your Early 20’s?

that makes sense, I knew these over the counter Olay products wouldn’t work, I just know that sometimes they put something in their products, that makes your skin worse the minute you stop using it…think of rogaine (hair starts faling again once u stop using it), Proactiv (skin starts getting acne as soon as u stop using it)…thats why…

But I guess since I don’t have wrinkles currently, i don’t have anything to worry about…I just dont wanna end up getting bad skin with wrinkles as soon as I stop using it! i just wanna use those two products to moisturize my face so I can use less foundation according to the blog I was reading here is the link:

No, nothing wrong with it. Its actually a very good thing to start using anti-aging products earlier. The thing with us desi woman is that we start using all of this anti aging products when we hit late 30s or 40s. If you start using it earlier you are really slowing down the process of aging. If nothing else, most moisturizers do have spf in them which helps you plus you get that extra anti aging formula. Its 100% safe to use these products and many makeup artists and skin experts would recommend you start using or at least start experimenting with them in your early-mid 20s.

Re: Is it Safe to use a Wrinkle Cream in Your Early 20's?

are u sure its with desis only. i dont think so. i see lots of white moms having wrinkles in their early 30s. i remember being so puzzled abt anti aging in my mid-late twenties n every time i asked a derm or a beautician abt it they would say ù dont need worry. i even asked my accupuncturist 2 yrs back for under eye wrinkle treatment n he looked closely and saidu don`t need it. now i clearly do.
but kids these days r lucky. they get right info at right time.

Re: Is it Safe to use a Wrinkle Cream in Your Early 20's?

A lot of this depends on your skin type. Oily skin tends to get wrinkly later than dry skin. I have very very very dry skin so moisturizer is a must for me. I would still say that its good to start looking for good moisturizers in your 20s, that will help your skin as you get older. Getting a professional treatment is a whole different thing than just start inquring about, start experimenting with these products in your early 20s. I am pretty surprised at whoever recommended you don't need to start using these prodcuts in your late 20s. A lof it is prevention rather than repair at that age.

Re: Is it Safe to use a Wrinkle Cream in Your Early 20's?

When does the wrinkles start to appear?

Re: Is it Safe to use a Wrinkle Cream in Your Early 20's?

Why fix something that aint broken?

Re: Is it Safe to use a Wrinkle Cream in Your Early 20's?

^^ Prevention.. so it doesn't break :D

Re: Is it Safe to use a Wrinkle Cream in Your Early 20's?

I'd never use these anti-aging creams. Although, I love using ubtan made with honey, milk and baisan etc.

Re: Is it Safe to use a Wrinkle Cream in Your Early 20's?

^Same here, early and mid 20's is too early for even "prevention" IMO, especially if you have no signs of wrinkles or aging (if you do, that's a different story). I'd focus more on improving the overall condition of my face rather than spending money on wrinkle creams. I'm a product junkie myself and am always looking for ways to improve my skin, but I also feel that the more you look for flaws, the more you'll find them even if they aren't there.

Re: Is it Safe to use a Wrinkle Cream in Your Early 20's?

umm ok ok rewind... I said you should start looking into these products not necessarily make them part of your daily regimen.. by late 20s you should start using them. I used to work for Estee Lauder companies and it was a part of our training to tell consumers about the pros and cons of starting at a relatively young age. I am not a product junkie though but I think using a good moisturizer that will give you good long term benefit is like using a good spf that you probably dont' think you need much of but in the long term it makes a difference.

Re: Is it Safe to use a Wrinkle Cream in Your Early 20's?

^I never suggested that you said that, infact I haven't even read your other posts =/ If you worked for a makeup company that specializes in skin care, then I can see why you have that belief, which is totally fine, everyone feels differently about things anyway. But I think just because something is "good" for you doesn't mean you can't make do without it and most people don't need to worry about "prevention" in their early 20's. Also, i'm aware a good moisturizer is essential but I believe the discussion was specifically about wrinkle creams.

Also, in response to pakieyez, if you're worried that a wrinkle cream might end up giving you premature wrinkles, then don't use one at all! they have so much other natural goodness out there will help with "prevention" and give you youthful healthy skin without being an actual wrinkle cream....like rosehip oil for example. As per Stoppit's suggestion, I started using it, it's all natural and has great benefits, you should give it a try :)

Re: Is it Safe to use a Wrinkle Cream in Your Early 20's?

Trust me ladies, these things come out of nowhere. Even though my age is never guessed more than about 22-23 (and usually I'm asked what I'm studying in 'college'), I can see the signs starting to appear (under eyes and laughlines) and they have done so only in the last year, out of nowhere. But do I think there is anything I could have done differently? Not really. And tbh I'm not changing anything now, because I already have a good routine and I don't think there is much you can do prevent the natural process... just make it slower rather than rapid.

I've always used spf, all year around and always kept my skin well moisturised, including the under eye area- just because it's never dry doesn't mean that it doesn't need taking care of. Another tip is not to touch or pull at it too much, particularly when applying makeup. I think an oil is better than anything else for moisturising - I use rosehip oil as Marwah mentioned :)

The only thing I'd consider now is retin-A as Paheli has suggested. But that is because I have particular areas (like the laughlines) that need addressing and if I can slow down the ageing process there, that would be nice. I certainly wouldn't use something like that pre-emptively.

Re: Is it Safe to use a Wrinkle Cream in Your Early 20’s?

That’s exactly wht I am trying to say. You are going to age no matter what.. lol.. but certain things do help the process slow down a bit.. not drastically. And I wish people would say I looked that young :bummer:

Re: Is it Safe to use a Wrinkle Cream in Your Early 20's?

yeh.. but I don't believe for a second that anti wrinkle creams have anything special in them that will make them more effective than using a regular moisturiser or oil.

it's things like dry skin, being rough with your skin, not wearing spf, not eating healthily, not drinking enough water, not getting enough sleep, smoking etc that are going to speed up the process.

Re: Is it Safe to use a Wrinkle Cream in Your Early 20's?

Yes I agree. I don't use anything for anti-wrinkle.. just a very good moisturizer, scrubs.. and that's what I kept saying my posts too. Good moisturizers. Anti-aging products, something you* might want to start thinking about*. I am in 20s, married and have a kid. After all of that, the stress of running a house, taking care of the baby, sleepless nights I am starting to get deep lines under my eyes and even on my forehead .. and umm did I say I am still in my 20s. Overall of my skin is very good MA but wrinkles and all I do have.. can't help

Re: Is it Safe to use a Wrinkle Cream in Your Early 20’s?

Firstly, let’s get one fact very straight here. Retin A is the ONLY thing that’s actually FDA approved for the treatment of fine lines and wrinkles. There is absolutely no question that it works. Yes there are other products that can be used to “anti-aging” due to other effects they have on the skin (Vit. C, AHA’s, various oils etc.)…but Retin A is the only thing that’s actually proven through medical research to diminish and prevent fine lines/wrinkles.

Secondly, Retin A works by encouraging cell turover and increasing collagen production (this is a very simple explanation of it of course). Based on what Retin A does to our skin (again, pure science), it’s impossible for Retin A to cause wrinkles.

Now that we have the 2 indisputable FACTS mentioned above out of the way…let me state my thoughts on all this. Please remember to everything below is my personal opinion, and I’m very aware of the fact that not everyone feels the same way. But these are my personal beliefs when it comes to skin care and what I use to take care of my skin.

  1. The point in “anti-aging” skin care is not to prevent aging. I don’t expect to look like a 20 year old when I’m 60. The goal is to have the best looking skin possible and also, MINIMIZE and DELAY fine lines/wrinkles as much as possible.

  2. Prevention is always the best thing. I don’t see any logic behind actually waiting until fine lines/wrinkles show up in order to start using something that’s already proven to prevent them.

  3. Generally fine lines/wrinkles start appearing when we’re in our 30’s. But many other things such as genetics and lifestyle can also effect this.

  4. Yes, many over the counter creams claim to prevent fine lines/wrinkles. There usually contain a VERY low % of Retin A/retinol, and that’s what makes it legal for them to make that claim. But don’t forget that in the U.S., Retin A is a prescription medication (although you can get this in India with no issues..:)). B/C of this, over-the-counter products sold in the U.S. will contain VERY minimal amount of this. Just enough for them to make it legal to make an “anti-aging” claim in their marketing…but not really enough to do anything worthwhile to the skin (especially based on how much they charge for these creams!). Retin A is super cheap overseas.

  5. I started using chemical peels and Retin A back when I was 26. I wish I knew about Retin A when I was 21 b/c then I would’ve had better skin earlier! (I also has acne issues until my mid 20’s). Personally, I have not noticed any premature wrinkles. As I said before, based on chemistry and how the product works, it’s impossible for it to CAUSE wrinkles.

  6. Now here’s the kicker: Retin A makes your skin sensitive to the sun (just like glycolic/lactic/salicylic acids). So when using it, it’s VERY crucial that a strong sunscreen is applied on the skin ANYTIME you’re outside in the daylight (even on cloudy days!) It’s actually best to avoid the sun as much as possible. I always wear big sunglasses when going out, and also have big/wide brimmed hats that I wear if I’m going to be outside for more than 5-10 minutes. If you choose not to use a strong sunscreen when using RA or other AHA’s, then the sun damage to your skin will be worse that normal.

  7. For someone serious about anti-aging, it’s important to include neck, upper chest, and hands when doing these treatments. I apply Retin A in those areas too. Its retarded to have you face look 10 years younger than your real-age, but then someone looks at our hand or neck/upper chest area and that actually looks like your actual age. :smack: That’s like people who lighten their face but ignore the rest of their body. I prefer to have a consistent “look head-to-toe”.

  8. Now below is what I will tell my daughter if I ever have one. Since birth…lol…be super diligent about using sunscreen. Avoid sun as much as possible. If acne is not an issue, then up until you’re 26/27, use good moisturzers (I’m a big fan of oils these days), AHA’s, Vit. C serums. Make them part of your daily routine, and get in the habit of using them. Then starting at 26/27, start incorporating Retin A in your routine. (BTW, I have 2 sisters who’re in college currently…and both already use Retin A for acne).

  9. These products are not “magic potions” that’ll make you look great overnight. It can takes weeks/months to see results. Proper skin care of a combination of multiple things used correctly and diligently, and also having the patience to allow them to work.

  10. Anti-aging isn’t only about using creams. It’s a lifestyle. In addition to using products, it’s also very important to eat healthy and exercise regularly as much as possible. Smoking/drinking is a big “no-no”.
