I was just wondering if its possible to have a multi-core processor in the future that can be assigned specific programs/tasks for separate cores. For instance:
in a quad core processor, you could assign two cores to work on ur graphics program commands while rest of the cores handle general PC work…
Windows Vista has a very cool feature called Dream Scene which allows a user to set animated wallpapers. Trouble is, it takes too much processor power. So we could assign one core to wallpaper job.
I think it’ll require both hardware and software support. Its kinda like that AMD concept where they r coming up with specialized mathematics processor. But I am just interested in knowing if this idea is feasible, theoretically and practically speaking? Has something like this been proposed before?
Re: Is it possible
That option is already available for dual cores :p
You can assign a task or program to a specific core.
Re: Is it possible
As DP said. But why the heck would u be worrying about Dream scene if you need processing that are critical?
Re: Is it possible
Tofibaba: Dreamscene= example
DP: can u tell me how i can do that? I have a dual core system. Thanx :)
Re: Is it possible
sure,
Press: Ctrl+Alr+del.---->select the task or program you would like to assign to a core, ----> right click----->the bottom button, (I forgot the name of the button)and voila :)—> you can select a core :k:
Re: Is it possible
the problem is that the question I asked can be anwsered by a yes or no
So I m waiting…
Re: Is it possible
No.
PS: sorry for the long wait.

On2's Flix engine uses separate cores for encoding videos..there's gotta be many others
