Is it offensive?

Hello,
I was sitting with some pakistani friends, and one of them was showing us her pictures, she asked if she looks curry in it, i said yea u look like a paindo, coz she was wearing shalwar kamiz in it… She didnt mind but the others gave me weird looks..
Now i dont know what it means, but me and my cousins use it for currys(s.asian people) we even call ourselves paindos when joking arnd.. but i dont know if it is actually offensive to a certain group of people..

Please explain what katah angraze is?
and i dont wear powder..

Would be no use asking those girls, i might get answers like yours..
thanks for the useful tips..

Declaration:- Gals in shalwar kameez look way too sober and attractive than without. :D

Yea i think they do look graceful.

whats so paindoo about wearing shalwar kameez??

Its all labels. If others mind such trivial stuff then you maybe in the wrong crowd.

Shalwar kameez is more sophisticated, I think its rather elegant.

i dont think its offensive at all... we usually call each other fobs when we're in a shilwar kameez... but it only states that ur just looking more curry than the rest of them.... i usually take it as a compliment depending on who its coming from

It shouldnt be offensive.
Are u really close to them? Maybe they just werent that close to u to expect such a frank remark.

If ur asking in general terms in Pakistan, it “could” be offensive to some. Because basically its a derogatory term for people from the pind that are considered sorta backward.

Me with my circle of friends normally use the term sheeda (sheeda as in sheeeda meeda, maaja gaamaa) for a paindu/desi. Its more elegant and spells class. :smooth:

According to the lughat e luqman peer maanki shareef,

Sheeda - male desi
Sheedan - female desi

Madhanee- We use it if we're watching an indian movie or anything we curry we do.. it's just not a big deal..
Deviliciouss- theres nothing wrong in wearing shalwar kamiz, that was not my point..
CocoNut- Yea im with ya,, but theyre not that bad..
Hoor bano- i know, i agree...
Sadzz- exactly my point.. i dont see anything wrong with it, but i dont wana say it again in someones face incase they take me wrong..
Kaka- thanks for explaining that, i wanted to know where it comes from. And na im not very close to them, but theyre nice.

People always joke like that when Im in shalvar kameez. But it doesnt bother me at all.

mystical… some people dont even know what paindoo means.. i know so many pakistanis who look at me funny when i use the word, only cus they have no idea what it means…

if they aint close, dont use it… but if ur bum chums then go for it hehe.. id call u a paindoo (ur far from it neways!) but i wouldnt call someone i didnt know :flower2:

Sadz, some family friend introduced us to the term,, n one my cousins used to say paindi but now she knows..
n thanx i'd be much careful,, it wud save me the embarrassment.. and people thinking im some kinda of a racist or somthing.. :( :)

muslimqueen, doesnt bother me too.. :)

Madhanee ji what makes one an authentic paindoo??

I personally would find it offensive, cuz I never came across anyone who would pass such comments, so yea I'd be surprised and might even say a thing or two if the person is a complete stranger :D I don't think its about a certain group of people, while some might not be familiar with your intentions others wouldn’t have that good sense of humor.

Madhanee, I don't think i will come across an authentic paindoo. Even if i did, he/she might not like the way we dress, or talk or discuss things. He/she would definately think we're pretentious if we'r trying to question things about him/her.

Im beginning to think, an authentic paindoo if asked why he/she takes cold baths in winter and not hot showers/baths, would reply in sarcasm, bitterness in a plain paindoo style...
Thanks for making me recognize one!!
