Is it Normal???

To go to college for 3 years and still have not a darn clue what your true potential is and what you’re truly good at (like others) or possibly what you’d want to do for the rest of ur life? :frowning:

Re: Is it Normal???

its that stupid typical third-world thinking "if my son doesn't go into THIS medicine college he's doomed".. darn man seriously even a sweeper can raise a family in the western world.. and by the way there's this reputable website i came across (dunno the address now but you can find it from google) that says that "it is perfectly okay to go into university with no idea of your future career".. other than that there are various other colleges and universities (the ones in north america are standard.. nvm the paki ones backhome) that can take you somewhere good even if it's your 99th try..
^^ my own parents might deny that but not everything is very hard if you do it the right way

Re: Is it Normal???

my advice is take a career that you want .. if your parents agree with that you need look no further ..

Re: Is it Normal???

It’s normal. People change programs all the time, and even take time off to decide whether they want to pursue a certain feild. I myself, took computer engineering for 2 years, and than dropped out, and switched to electronics which I finished just recently. The money went to waste, but atleast now I know what I want to do with my life. You may even want to take a break from school and research into what feild you may find more interesting. Talking to a councellor should also be an option worth considering.

Re: Is it Normal???

It's normal. You have no idea how many people I know that didnt know what they wanted to do until well after leaving college. This includes myself. Actually I knew what I wanted to be since I was little, but in college I pursued a completely different field.

After college I started working. Held different types of jobs for short periods of time and had no clue as to what I should do. People used to ask me what I wanted to do with my life because they saw I was never permanent in anything (this includes family members). It was a little embarrassing at first having no direction, but I didnt give up.

Finally I decided one day that I am going to go back and pursue what I originally wanted to do, and which had nothing to do with my Bachelors degree. And now I am doing that, Alhumdulillah. So, moral of story, I figured out after finishing my degree what I wanted to do with my life.

A good friend of mine pursued a degree in science field. Ended up working for a few years. Didnt like what he was doing, and decided to go to grad school. Now he likes what he is getting into.

It's different for everyone, dont feel pressured. Just make du'aa that Allah show you the right path. And insha'Allah it will work out for you. smile

Re: Is it Normal???

Everytime I take a different class each semester, i think of pursuing that asa second major/minor :bummer:

Re: Is it Normal???

^ it happens :hehe:

I changed my major 3 times in undergrad but always kept Pre-medicine on a side.

Started from pre-medicine then jumped to computer science ( I dunno what I was thinking) then almost got into interior designing but then landed back on Biology Major and now Alhamdullilah in med school
