Is it my PC , my home network or settings

Ok here goes..
I have a cable internet connection frm Comcast. I have a wirless netwrok setup …basic stuff.
on my desktop machine I have XP pro. On my laptop I have the same.
My desktop is hard wired to the net.
So when I run videos (google, youtube etc) …on my desktop they either don’t run… or take ages to load and run as if I had a dialup connection…with huge lag..
where as everything is fine on my laptop…
so what gives..??!!
tried cleaning for spyware, daily cookie cleanup…etc
My win xp firelwall is not running but my Macafee is enabled…

this is motly when i run links from cricket nama and video section…

Re: Is it my PC , my home network or settings

Is the speed slow on other sites? Check the speed of desktop and laptop at
Speakeasy AND Cnet

If its the desktop that scores low on both test, then it seems like your desktop (browser settings, running torrents, etc) ; it may also be the port of your router … so try changing the port on the desktop on the router.

Re: Is it my PC , my home network or settings

well it scored higher than the laptop...
so what gives...?
could it be a problem in general with my ISP.?

Re: Is it my PC , my home network or settings

check the version of browser on both machines

Re: Is it my PC , my home network or settings

^ yeah… it seems like browser settings.
download IE7 if you use firefox
OR
download firefox if u use IE

it can’t be your isp as your laptop goes thru the same pipe.

Re: Is it my PC , my home network or settings

It can be anything. Check the duplex setting on the NIC stream flow, browser caching. Also try to listen/watch streaming media using direct real player or Media player (without browser plugins). Also check ur firewall settings.

I mean it can be anything .. u have to do full investigation & compare the setting of desktop & laptop.

Re: Is it my PC , my home network or settings

Did u try switching ports on the router as Mr. G suggested? Might be spyware too. Again as Najim said it could be anything.

Re: Is it my PC , my home network or settings

Yes I tried switching ports..
thought is could be ISP as it seemed the laptop is also slow...
but I will check the browser setting...

Another thing I noticed is that I had installed the desktop weather from weather channel...
so now my desktop has that ...could that be slowing down the download streaming ...?

Re: Is it my PC , my home network or settings

Yes, that weather channel crap does behave like most spywares, uninstall asap. You don't need minute by minute info on what the weather is like.

Re: Is it my PC , my home network or settings

lol ya, how hard is it to go outside and check the weather... :D

Re: Is it my PC , my home network or settings

:bummer: well I thought my machine was strong enough for that…

will uninstall tonight…

Re: Is it my PC , my home network or settings

No computer is strong enuff for the element! ;)

Re: Is it my PC , my home network or settings

Re: Is it my PC , my home network or settings

I would call up the isp and do a test using the desktop computer. You should also try re-booting all your hardware including the modem and the router.

Also if you reset you're router (has nothing to do with your current computer settings) you can have it so it's fresh out of the box and you can mess all over again with it to see what the problem was/is.
