Is it Muslims in the west or Western Muslims?

The Peace and Blessings Upon You

I recently attended a talk by one the brightest philosophers today, chap called Tariq Ramadan. He’s recently written a book entitled “Western Muslims and the Future of Islam”.

What he proposes in the this book is a direction for so called Muslims in the West. He proposes the term ‘western Muslims’ as one would associate Muslims in China with Chinese Muslims. To embrace the environment and surrounding that they live in as their own and to blend their beliefs and actions with their environment. He calls for integration to gain from non-Muslim environments and to also contribute to the wider society and to stop becoming a widening phenomenon of ghettoisation.

Why is this in the world section of gupshup? Well, I guess I opened up this discussion to let you guys know about the book and also to gauge what you think the role of Western Muslims is in the world today?

Lets keep it civil

Muslims in the west or Muslims in the east

they both same i think the term western muslims is more associated with a muslim who is luke warm or liberal who only considers islam as a friday or ramdhan thing.

I am not sure what you mean blend and mix for example what is different from a muslim in nigeria to a muslim in new york they both have a guide on how to live i.e quran and sunnah.

If a muslim wants to contribute to society no problem that is a good thing but to lose their identity by abandoning some aspects of their islam is a road to disaster.

As an example if you look at some some jewish and christian people i don't know what is left of there belief i don't see much of it in there actions any more and this is also inevitable if muslim wants to integrate and follow this path.
