Some people learn academic and work-related things way quicker than others, and I have long wondered if they are just smarter or if it is something else. I used to attribute their speed to their technique or background but now it seems, although those things count, intelligence is very real and far more impactful. Many self-help guides talk about learning how to learn, but I think that stuff can only go so far. Students/employees who are quick learners go way farther with each stride, can enjoy weekends and holidays, have work/life balance which ordinary students/employees have to sacrifice if they want to barely stay in the competition.
Humans are born with an IQ and it cannot be changed, sometimes lack of focus can be mistaken for lack of intelligence. When parents yell at their kids and hit them children lose a lot of brain cells and have a hard time being succesful and focusing.
I think the ability to focus while learning is a sign of intelligence but that is just my opinion. For example, consider a 25cc scooter going up a hill. It will not be able to climb in a straight line and will keep going sideways to avoid the hard climb. On the other hand if a 500 cc motorcycle goes up the same hill, it will have no problem climbing in a straight line. Similarly, I think while studying/working when an ordinary person comes across something with a steep learning curve, their mind keeps going sideways in order to avoid the hard climb, hence keep losing focus. On the other hand, if there is someone more intelligent, they can go right ahead. May be I'm wrong but that seems like a plausible explanation of the key role intelligence plays while learning in school/at work.
Focus also depends on interest, energy flows where the interest is. Most of the successful people have more social intelligence. People who lack in intelligence can get good at the subject by spending more time learning. Like in athletics, an athlete can be naturally gifted but the athlete who works much harder will beat him.
In my opinion, intelligence is the most important human attribute. Unfortunately, most of it is gifted and cannot be acquired. Take example of explaining a rather complex mathematical theorem to someone from a non-Match background. Even if you break it down into simple to understands pieces or spoon-feed them with logical examples, they will still struggle to comprehend easily. But a smarter person with a higher IQ will be able to understand it better without much coaching.
Intelligence is not just scientific/academic. It translates into Arts, Sports, Business and other walks of life. Most of the successful sportsmen, artists, painters, entrepreneurs, even mob bosses running criminal enterprises have been rather intelligent people.
Mixing intelligence with application seems to be the deciding factor.
I whole heartedly agree with Bobby1 here. Focus is such an important thing.
I'm not a scientist so cannot say that we ignore intelligence level ofcourse it does play an important role. But with strong focus/concentration an average mind can achieve the same as a very intelligent mind.
and then there are other factors like positive mindset, motivation etc. Combine all tools and sky is the limit for whoever.
What Navzzz is saying sounds harsh but what if that is really the case. Then knowing that can be a relief to many when they are being compared with someone far more intelligent. In the movie Taare Zameen Par, teachers/parents were blaming the kid for not paying attention, not taking interest, being lazy, etc. Until they realized the actual issue.
Let’s say 2 employees get the same assignment to give a presentation separately to 2 separate audiences at the same time the next day. The topic of the presentation is BitCoin. Both employees have almost no information about the topic at the start of their preparation and let’s assume both get the same questions about Blockchain, fraud protection, pricing trends, etc. asked by the audience.
The employee with ordinary intelligence starts to prepare right away, cancelling everything else for the day on his todo list. Read Wikipedia and many other websites, took notes, etc. Continued late into the evening and then after reaching home, once again started studying more about the topic. Made the presentation and prepared side notes before going to bed late at night. Then revised the presentation by waking up early the next morning. During the presentation, he answered 50% questions correctly and the audience rates him as not very knowledgeable about Bitcoin.
On the other hand, the employee with extraordinary intelligence finishes what was on his todo list for the rest of the day and leaves for home on time. Then after going home, he eats dinner with family and spends 2 hours reading up on BitCoin. Then goes to bed on time. Next morning puts together his presentation. During the presentation he answered 90% of the questions correctly and the audience rated him as very knowledgeable about Bitcoin.
If not intelligence, then what else could be the reason behind the second employee’s better and quicker understanding ?
Hard skills now are a dime a dozen and to get good at any task repetition is required and it kind of becomes an instinct and second nature. Most of us are not inventors or scientists and computers have made our jobs easier. Social intelligence now is way more important that is EQ, not IQ. I have seen socially awkward guys who have amazing IQs and they just rot away. Parents should analyse kids personalities and guide them to careers or businesses suited for them.
I had a huge argument with this lady who was forcing university on the kids. Harris is a very charming socialiser and I started his Real estate career at 18, at 19 he will own an investment property. He will still study Construction Technology so he may start his housing company.
I respect everyone trying to make an honest living, whether they went to college or not, whether they earn a lot or not. Topic of discussion is not about people’s career choices. I get fascinated when I see something I couldn’t explain yet it affects my everyday life, and intelligence to me is one such thing. We don’t notice it when we are with those who are at our level or below our level. But it becomes very noticeable when we are working/studying with people having superior intelligence. I wish I had that kind of intelligence.
Marriage is a man made tradition and has no incidence in any other life form
We don’t follow science to entirety as Science says survival of the fittest and we try to support the weak and the poor and not annihilating them
Please read up on humanism and that is mostly our guiding principles.
when we took in refugees, was that based on any scientific principles? When we spend money supporting families of many whose purpose of existence is to see our destruction, is that scientific.
We protect people on basis of religion, race sexual preference
Right wing extremists claim superiority of race quoting science so are you willing to accept that
There is incidences if homosexuality in animal kingdom also
PS countries like Pak, India and China are becoming a population time bomb with not enough resources and serious food insecurity so what is the big deal with having children. Many couples in west chose not to have any children also, so is that unscientific?
Also Mr. @SindSagar I would respectfully ask that in a country where 97 percent of street children are molested, paedophilia is endemic in madrassas, one of the highest is gay porn clicks and a huge incidence of homosexuality why do most people hate on someone for having their own sexual prefrence, shouldnt that energy be dedicated towards protecting children? Have we not learned from the most infamous khanewal case.
IQ is defined as problem solving skills, how is a consensual relationship in Indiana our problem to solve? I think if you allowed homosexuality and severly punished paedophiles than you might partly solve the paedophilia problem! Wouldn't you agree?
Most of our decisions are based on our prehistoric genes when we started evolving from rodents, I feel animals who can sense changes in weather, fly/swim thousands of miles without navigation and communicate in ocean for thousands of miles are smarter than us. How smart are we in destroying our planet? No absolutely not, we are not making smart decisions and could be the most shortlived species who destroyed their own world.
By The way @Bobby1 Bhai Sahib, you have conveniently ignored your own Thesis! you claiming Over Population and Poverty will destroy the Earth…
where as the Reality is the SUPER SMART Science and Technology has created NUCLEAR WEAPONS that will OBLTERATE our Planet within a Few Hours when all the stored THOUSANDS of WARHEADS are let LOOSE by Very INTELLIGENT FOLKS!..
So I ask you BHai Sahib what does Intelligence get us in the END? Inhalation!
Sir I did not say that overpopulation will destroy the world, all I said was if some humans stop breeding than it won’t be a tragedy. Over population will not destroy the world, it will destroy over populated countries. Yes most smart people say that artificial intelligence will destroy the world.
And I am not saying humans are intelligent
Science has got nothing to do with liberalism or conservatism, right-wing or left-wing, socialism or capitalism, religion or anti-religion. Science is a body of knowledge that attempts to explain the physical world and how it works through testing a theory or hypothesis against robust experimentation, that can be repeated again and again to reach the same logical conclusion, whether for or against a given question (hypothesis). It constantly keeps changing in light of new evidence backed up by same experiments. Its not rigid or faith-based.
There are countless examples where the scientific view is against the ‘politically correct’ general consensus e.g homosexual sex raises risk of HIV/AIDS BUT we do not ban gay relationship; circumcision helps prevent several STDs BUT its still considered cruel in many societies; selective marriages and sociogenetic engineering increases human potential BUT we still condemn Nazism; fertility declines with age BUT we still encourage women to focus on their chosen career; children in married households do better BUT we still allow cohabitation; teenage sex increases risk of cervical cancer but teenagers are still allowed to have sex amongst themselves, there are significant variations in the mental and physical faculties of different human races BUT we still promote quality and diversity.
So please do not confuse science with political correctness, liberalism, libertinism, atheism, modernism, progressivism, etc etc.
Intelligence and wisdom should not be confused. Our primitive ape DNA precludes us from making right choices. I wonder what world would look like when we have robots a million times smarter than humans.
Somehow i didnt get tag alert but to answer your question, I think two factors you mentioned are not directly linked at all. An intelligent person doesnt mean he/she automatically believes in Science and vice versa.
As for judges, strongly think it has more to do with politics than science. Thats why judges tend to be conservatives as well, far opposite to liberalism.
