i think its just fine.... theres been many posts regarding this topic... i've posted a few articles about it too...
depends entirely on how u feel and what u think Islam says... try to read up on it.. and develop ur own understanding.. dont base it on anyone else's view... cus everyone's view about decency and indeceny is very different....
as long as ur body is covered decently, no tight or revealing clothes, and ur head is covered, it is goo enuff....
ofcourse u shud realize that this rules out jeans and t-shirts too....
does the Quran say that jeans and t-shirts are indecent?
Quran rules out any dress which is tight and revealing...so automatically jeans and t-shirts are covered under that...
i think this answer will suffice...

as a matter of fact, it does not....
but then neither does it say a bikini or a thong is indecent....
if its just the exact name that u r interested in....
^ no its not the name im interested in...
a t-shirt and jeans dont necessarily mean 'tight' or 'revealing'... thats what i meant..
as long as they r not tight or revealing, they r OK.....plus, u should also cover the head....

The following has been taken from
http://www.whyislam.org/877/FAQ/q3.asp
Hope that helps.
Six criteria for Hijab
According to Qur’an and Sunnah there are basically six criteria for observing hijab:
1. Extent:
The first criterion is the extent of the body that should be covered. This is different for men and women. The extent of covering obligatory on the male is to cover the body at least from the navel to the knees. For women, the extent of covering obligatory is to cover the complete body except the face and the hands upto the wrist. If they wish to, they can cover even these parts of the body. Some scholars of Islam insist that the face and the hands are part of the obligatory extent of ‘hijab’.
All the remaining five criteria are the same for men and women.
2. The clothes worn should be loose and should not reveal the figure.
3. The clothes worn should not be transparent such that one can see through them.
4. The clothes worn should not be so glamorous as to attract the opposite sex.
5. The clothes worn should not resemble that of the opposite sex.
6. The clothes worn should not resemble that of the unbelievers i.e. they should not wear clothes that are specifically identities or symbols of the unbelievers’ religions.
Hijab includes conduct and behaviour among other things
Complete ‘hijab’, besides the six criteria of clothing, also includes the moral conduct, behaviour, attitude and intention of the individual. A person only fulfilling the criteria of ‘hijab’ of the clothes is observing ‘hijab’ in a limited sense. ‘Hijab’ of the clothes should be accompanied by ‘hijab’ of the eyes, ‘hijab’ of the heart, ‘hijab’ of thought and ‘hijab’ of intention. It also includes the way a person walks, the way a person talks, the way he behaves, etc.
rightly said K-2........
jazakallah.. K-2..
since the Jews and Christian women covered their hair (in fact a nun’s identity is established by her habit) Muslimahs should take particular care in ensuring they do not resemble the ‘unbelievers’ and leave their heads uncovered :k:
well pointed out :k:
arguing just for the sake of argument… You yourself know that your arguement does not have any substance. If you see a nun you know that she is not Muslim, but a nun. Similarly, if you see Islamically dressed Muslimah you would know that she is not a nun but a Muslimah.
Point # 6 in my above post explains that clothes should not be specific identities or symbols of the unbelievers’ religion
We should remember this Hadith of Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.)
“Every religion has a distinctive quality, and the distinctive quality of Islam is modesty.” - [al-Bayhaqi, Ibn Majah and in Malik’s Muwatta]
^ how does modesty relate to covering ur hair?
Saddz, if you are covered up that would make it easier for the frothing, horny, dogmatics from comiting sins of picturing you in a compromising way. Think of it as saving their souls. PLease cover yourself from head to toe as not to make these pious men commit such sins. They have really weak constituiton and you have to protect them from spending so much time rope climbing.
^ aaah thanx matsui.. i forgot for a moment that the Islam they were talking about is in reference to protecting the pouis men from us worthless and besharam women...
i'll look into wearing a table cloth next time i walk out.... but wont that just make them want to know whats behind it all?
^
u cud go around naked lady if u feel like....
if u want to know what Islam says, then do it, dont argue....
and if u dont want to follow, dont ask and dont try to make fun....
^ I am not trying to make fun of it... and i do follow it to the best of my ability... and i thank Allah Mian for that..
how can i know what Islam says by doing it? Shouldnt i read.. interpret.. understand.. and then follow? rather than.. do it.. obey it.. then try to understand it?
