Let’s limit the discussion to people that specifically don’t have thyroid issues or any other condition that would cause them to be fat.
Use any definition for fat you please.
Re: Is it immoral to be fat?
yes, if you live to eat, rather thn eat to live.
Re: Is it immoral to be fat?
if it is immoral to drink, or smoke, or other things that harm your health, to be fat is immoral too. especially if you are fat due to lifestyle reasons.
Re: Is it immoral to be fat?
The cure to that kind of overweightedness is "Push the plate away"
Re: Is it immoral to be fat?
Fatness is itself not the immoral act ... As you mention it can be caused by many things ... Greed and gluttony which may lead to fatness are the real immoral deeds. Remember some people have fast metabolisms and are still just as greedy and gluttonous as some fatter people just because they are not 'fat' it does not mean that they are morally on high ground in this matter either.
Re: Is it immoral to be fat?
In some societies to be fat is a sign of wealth and those who behave arrogant due to their chubbiness will also constitute an immoral act.
Re: Is it immoral to be fat?
lol immoral.
20 lashes for being fat.
Re: Is it immoral to be fat?
Yes. Except in the case real illness. Prophet Mohammed (pbu) used to eat 1/4 less than his hunger and fast on Monday and Thursday. I leave the readers to relate this to "immoral" as you see it.
Re: Is it immoral to be fat?
Okay, let's eliminate the possibility of a thyroid condition.
**
What about stress? **There are many people that turn to food for comfort during problems in life.
Of course it's good to take care of your body and this is recommended even in religion. Although some religions might consider gluttony to be a sin.......I personally wouldn't take being "being overweight" to the extreme of calling it "immoral". I think there are worse crimes to worry about.
And what about looking down on those who are overweight, is that not immoral? In today's world, where medical knowledge also confirms that a smaller size is healthier.....and fashions cater more to slimmer forms.....and we're constantly bombarded by the media with slim celebrities.................it is tougher for people who are overweight. Because it's not only a stubborn media and fashion trend that's here to stay......it's also indicative of health and lifestyle. Which makes it (not immoral) but perhaps more strongly frowned upon. And unfortunately as there are stereotypes regarding various groups of people based on culture/religion/profession......society also has stereotypes about the overweight.
It also depends on culture as well. Some cultural groups celebrate a more fuller figure and frown upon their thinner counterparts.

what about stress?
what about those that turn to alcohol/drugs/prostitutes during problems in life?

Promise that you wouldn't troll here.....
Help me to understand morality and I will try to explain how corpulence may drag you to immorality.

People have different ways of dealing with stress. I never said that eating was the only way to handle problems in your life. I brought it up as a possible cause.
^Alcohol, though, can contribute to weight gain.
Re: Is it immoral to be fat?
lal-malmal jee, causes are a-plenty for every immoral deed.
as for alcohol and weight gain, i wouldnt know because i have only seen alcohol in chemistry laboratory. i am very moral. and skinny too.
Re: Is it immoral to be fat?
in some places poor people are the ones who are more obese because they are eating bad food, cheap but filled with sugar, deep fried in hydrogenated oils and lard. lets not lose sight of that.t
Re: Is it immoral to be fat?
Yes it is immoral for Food Companies to put **High Fructose Corn Syrup **in all soft drinks…this sweetner is very harmful…causes persons to always be hungry…Liver can not digest it…stays circulating in blood vessels and causes damage to the arteries…deadly stuff!

Re: Is it immoral to be fat?
What a great question indeed.
Being fat without disease is immoral. Obviously in my statement, depression and anxiety will exclude the burden of responsibility on fat people.
I have never heard of a society which brother psyah talked about. That means being fat is considered being wealthy or arrogant.
Yes poor people in some places may end up eating fatty food to gain extra food (as mentioned by X2) but still being fat has to do with lack of education, being careless and plain and simple stupid if no physical or mental disease exists. Poor people still have choice to eat sensibly lesser amount or at least be physically active to burn the extra calories.
This has a weak caveat. While there may not be a physical disease, simply allowing to be fat by some can be considered a mental disease-loosely speaking.
**
Being fat has to do with **distorted image. One looks in the mirror and is completely oblivious of the weight gain from last few years.
These people ignore or accept the double chin, puffy cheeks, thick neck, bigger clothes and ever enlarging pant/waist size.
Many of these are **married **and just lose interest in keeping the shape either due to busy schedule or not really caring for their spouse's request to look good. Oh, I am married, is he/she going to ditch/divorce me for being fat? That's being callous and disrespectful.
Also, fat people are a burden on society (pun intended) :-)
They suck the resources from society's health care and all because of their bad choices.
OK. Strictly speaking, fat people may have more heart attack, more blood pressure, more diabetes, more surgeries( tummy tuck, breast reduction, knee joint replacement etc) and also may require special provisions, wheelchair, oxygen tanks, antibiotics etc.
I am not being mean here but being more realistic and truthful.
A healthy society is more productive.

it is somewhat to do with eduation true, but a lot depends on what is affordable and available, there are neighbourhoods without grocery stores, opportuntiies and time for exercise for many poor hardworking ppl is limited, and the highly processed, HFCS laden, prservatives loaded, stuff with saturated fat, simple carbs, etc does a number on you and its a slippery slope, without acess to facilities, better and more nutritiously sound meals its a vicious circle. There ahve been studies about this. It is not as easy for them to make the right choices that we think it is/
Re: Is it immoral to be fat?
Mr/Ms./Miss Ajeeb Ji,
First of all velvet is not malmal in urdu…it’s actually called **makhmal **![]()
And I never said that you personally would KNOW about drinking and it’s association with weight gain. I was simply stating some general knowledge about consumption of alcohol and weight gain. Obviously, only seeing alcohol in a chemistry lab or elsewhere would have little affect on one’s weight. ![]()
I don’t think that being overweight in particular makes a person immoral. I’ve seen heavy-set individuals with fine character. There are worse qualities out there that are more deserving of the “immoral” title in my opinion.
Also, what is immoral and what isn’t varies from person to person. If you feel that your skinniness is a strong and sufficient enough reflection of your morality, then congratulations and more power to you. ![]()
P.S. For your kind information, malmal is the urdu word for muslin, which is a very thin kind of cotton cloth. ![]()
Re: Is it immoral to be fat?
It is immoral to cheat, deceive, lie, hurt.....
but fat????
what an absurd idea!
