is it constipation or is it normal for a 3 week old to go without a bowel movement?

Hi, so my little one is 3 week old today and hasn’t had a bowel movement in 2 days now. I know it is very common for exclusively breast fed babies to go without a bowel movement for up to a week, but i just started supplementing him with enfamil, 4 ounce bottle only once a day. Is it normal or is it constipation. He is extremely gassy since birth. I have tried massaging his belly and moving his legs towards his abdomen but nothing happened. Should i talk to his paeds or wait for another day or two? My older one went without a bowel movement for upto 5 days with out any issues but he was exclusively breast fed.

Its only contipation if the baby poos pebble like rock hard poo. Otjerwise..its all good...i would wait it out... A week max. If notjing after tjat... Get jim cjecked.

Its tje baby's tummy getting used to formula.

Prune juice diluted in water would be great if he is.

i would say dont give any juice or medicine 2 the baby, he is 2 young 4 tht. Just message on his tummy in clock wise circular movements wid olive oil. Or move his legs in cycling style. I think he is not constipated he is just getting use2 formula n BM.

Look for signs of discomfort, pushing or holding breath, crying more than normal, then take him to doctors, otherwise hold tight ... :)

Thank u so much for the feed back.......he literally exploded in his diaper today so all is well :D

my munchkin used to go through dayyyys without having a bowel movement cus she was terrifed of the pain. I totally understand..

may be Gripe Water can help in this situation.....

Just keep an eye on whether he looks as though he is in any pain, or if his abdomen is hard or painful to touch. Otherwise he will just poo when ready as you described he has done ;-)
