Is it bad to criticize other religions like Hinduism?

Ignorance in regards to other faiths and overzealous regard for one’s own faith are two of the many reasons why people criticize other faiths. Also, when one feels that one’s religion exclusively holds the truth, this invariably leads to contempt for other faiths, and one deliberately ignores the spiritual aspects of other faiths. Whatever may be the reason, criticism leads to tension among people of different faiths. Therefore, as Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi has said, “I hold that it is the duty of every cultured man or woman to read sympathetically the scriptures of the world.”

The Hindu attitude toward other faiths is expressed in one of the oldest scriptures, the Rig Veda. It states, “Truth is one, sages call it by various names.” Thus, Hinduism accepts that all spiritual paths are different approaches to one and the same Supreme Being. Therefore, to eliminate uncharitable feelings toward other faiths is to recognize the truth that all pathways lead to the same goal.

When fanatic elements violate peace and harmony, more harm occurs to their own faith than is realized. They compel others to react with anger. This only adds fuel to the fire, and a vicious cycle of hatred sets in. Therefore, to criticize another faith is not only politically incorrect but also spiritually inconsistent. More than 100 years ago, Swami Vivekananda stated: “Harmony of religion is the crying need of the day. It is essential to the peace and progress of the world.” This is especially true today.

I dont think all hindus pay heed to the essence and spirit of hinduism, and the statement you mentioned, just as many muslims do not follow the essence and spirit of Islam.

Criticize others this much how much you can tolerate when others criticize you.

You are criticizing someones faith when you tell them that they have to believe every religion is the right way and that they are wrong to think otherwise, if infact it isnt in their "doctrine".

I would call that an outright criticism.

definitely. ofcourse.

Marathi, you are wrong, once you start a religious discussion; you have to find faults with others. Once you have praised your Hinduism, you are already in the trap. You cannot praise something without comparing it to something else. Next time, compare some religious discussion to the discussion of some political rivals, tell me if you find any difference.

follwing quote is more appropriate

"To know a person's religion we need not listen to his profession of faith but must find his brand of intolerance. "

correct me if i’m wrong repected knowledgable guppies but islam tells us muslims to **respect ** all religions regardless of wat our views ar against certain religions. rite!

peace :flower1:

Soft criticism.

One doesn't have to accept any elses religion as truth.

But I think one should be open enough to hear and see and understand the similarities of morals taught. Values taught.

Who but God is responsible for the simalarities?
