There is no harm in googling someone.

You have a responsibility towards yourself not to walk into a rishta blindly.

You owe it to your future to protect yourself. Never feel guilty about something like this.

Employers do it all the time, so it makes even more sense to do your homework on a prospective rishta. In Pakistan it goes a few steps further than that, a chachu or a mamoo will actually volunteer to stalk the prospective guy’s workplace etc and interview acquaintances of his
