Is it a direct result of modernisation of saudi policies?

Re: Is it a direct result of modernisation of saudi policies?

Erm.. plenty of MUSLIM sources are saying the same..

Interesting you’ve not quoting anything to refute what I’ve posted and just written that lol.. I’d take you a lot more seriously if you didn’t just attack the source..

Re-iterating what I said above..

Why divorce is on the rise in Saudi Arabia

From: alarabiya.net

**Forty percent of divorces were mainly due to the husband’s refusal to let his wife continue to work and forcing her to quit her job, while 60 percent were due to issues related to the husband’s control of his wife’s salary.

**
A woman by law cannot work without the consent of her husband; he can stop her from work and choose where she may or may not work. By law, a woman cannot travel without the consent of a male guardian; he can stop her from attending a conference or visiting her family and friends. Many men exploit this rule for their own selfish ego.
Social norms and government restrictions continue to create a lot of unhappy wives and are responsible for the increasing number of divorces and broken homes. In order to enhance the quality of life in the Saudi family, there needs to be a change in the mindsets of people who hold negative attitudes toward women and resist both change and progress.

**From: arabnews.com

“Countless young women are afraid of marrying into Saudi families because of soaring divorce rates and social restrictions,” Hady Makki, a hospital nurse, told Arab News.**

Saudi women prefer to marry foreigners | Arab News

From: albawaba.com**

With a daily average of around 57 divorce cases per day, Saudi is topping world charts with one of the highest divorce rates in the world. Over 30,000 cases were filed in 2012 and thus far in 2013. According to Saudi officials, nearly 90 percent of the divorce cases involve Saudis married to other Saudis.
KSA’s Justice ministry reported that the town of Makkah in the south ranks first with the highest divorce rate in the country, with 92 cases filed within the first 12 days of the new Hijri year that began last week.

Re: Is it a direct result of modernisation of saudi policies?

Oh, and as for Zafra commenting on my “anti-Islamic” point of view LOL, in the other thread you wrongly implied that FGM was a Christian thing.. When I posted the FACTS refuting that (with the actual historic Islamic rulings then more modern rulings afterwards) you conveniently ignored and didn’t reply.. Carry on trying to pass off your personal opinion as fact tho..** It was actually quite amusing seeing you quote Wikipedia YOURSELF in that thread trying to support your view but then completely contradicting what the articles actually said.. **

I’m a Muslim (if you bothered to read my posts rather than just insulting me you’d see I’m pro-hijab and pro-burqa for those who choose to wear it.. how “unIslamic”) but I’m not so blind that I can’t see the problems we’re facing..

What exactly in my post was unIslamic anyway?? I dared suggest that women wanting higher dowries was not such a huge deal considering their circumstances so that means I’m “anti-Islam” all of a sudden because what I wrote about them not being allowed to work without hubby’s permission, easily divorced etc IS factually correct and mentioned by the women themselves as issues which bothered them in the other sources..

Great logic you have there.. I wrote that so I must be “anti-Islam”..

Re: Is it a direct result of modernisation of saudi policies?

thats ok. I have no knowledge about the saudi policies.
I know wikislam is more like a hate site.

Re: Is it a direct result of modernisation of saudi policies?

Lay off Deeba. She is more conservative than me. I remember arguing with her on hijab. She is referring to facts about Arabs. They do these things to their women. I don’t blame girls there for avoiding Saudi men either.

Re: Is it a direct result of modernisation of saudi policies?

Deeba, I think you missed my post or the point I was trying to make. I’ll repeat. Qatar has the same problem as Saudi…too many Qatari single women. In fact, an Arab friend pointed out the ratio where there’s only one un married man available for 4 Qatari unmarried women. Now unlike Saudi, Qatar is a liberal country and you can do what you like…you can drive, work, travel etc. So please tell us why are these women facing the same problem? And please without any reference from anti-Islamic websites.

Re: Is it a direct result of modernisation of saudi policies?

yawn Yes your facts are based on prejudicial, biased anti-Islamic sources. By all means continue

WikiIslam is not Wikipedia. Two different entities.

Re: Is it a direct result of modernisation of saudi policies?

Not the kind if dowry where dowry is given to the girl like in India Pakistan but men need to pay money to the girl in Arab countries.

Re: Is it a direct result of modernisation of saudi policies?

Wow, i thought dowry was an social evil in India only.

Many reason could be behind this trend though it is also the world trend of people either marrying late or not getting married altogether.

I wonder what is the ratio of women past their prime who were once married and now left alone again.

Re: Is it a direct result of modernisation of saudi policies?

whenever I see these two words in the title together, I can’t control my smile… “Saudi” “Policies”.
