depends on what kind of projector..

digital ones should be ok.. specially if buying new.. older ones are a tough call.. I bought my CRT projector from e-bay.. but I knew the guy from an Audio/Video forum where he participated, plus he had storefront in some other state.

Do your homework. and it should be like buying anything else on e-bay
