God, what he meant by 'separate state within India' was that the ethnic minorities are demanding for their own little state, and not nation state!!
Bodos, the Karbis..they all are demanding a separate state created out of areas dominated by them in Assam, to safeguard their own interests being taken away by the dominant Assamese.

I would like to sum up the discussion. The fact is that India is a democracy, not only a democracy on paper but a living democracy. people enjoy absolute freedom. press is totally free. They often criticize govt policies without any reprieve. So in such a circumstance some groups, either instigated or with some leaders with ulterior motives, start some movements. But presently a very few among them can be called separatists, others seek the solution within the constitution. This type of phenomenon can be seen in most countries, so why do you single out India only. The starter of the thread has a single motive of belittling India by any means. he talks about minorities in India citing the same rotten examples of Gujrat and Orrisa. Has he ever tried to ask the members of any minority in India about their state of living. Perhaps he will be surprised, I am a living example. i am a muslim, no where did I feel that I have been segregated ever.

Christians of Orisa, Muslims of Gujrat and elsewhere, Maost, Tamils, Dalits and so many other socialy deprived, who make more than half of a space called "india" are in danger of exinction. This is resulting in uprisings in more than half of the states in india.
Tamil is a language and people of all religions in the Indian state Tamilnadu speak Tamil. Tamils are not minority or deprived by any means. There is no uprising here against Indian Govt.
SriLankan Tamils residing in northern SL are fighting SL govt for separate nation.
