Narayan yaar, c’mon even in HIV, India is NUMBER ONE. What more do you need? You’re even beating China at that now :hehe:

Re: Is India a failed State? or India is a failed State?

India has many of the attributes of a failed or failing state.

Re: Is India a failed State? or India is a failed State?

A failed state is where there are coups and the government can be thrown whenever a military general want.
India never had that problem, and it will never have it in future. So India is not a failed state.

Re: Is India a failed State? or India is a failed State?

A failed state is where there are mass starvations, where the state fails to provide for its hungry… And this is just one there are many other factors…

Re: Is India a failed State? or India is a failed State?

In India there is a widespread violation of human rights, criminalisation and breakdown of law and order in large sections of the country, a legacy of vengeance-seeking groups, a large number of internally displaced peoples, widespread economic disparities, a progressive deterioration of public services, a security apparatus given a free hand to suppress the population, malnutrition worse than even sub-saharan Africa, shocking levels of poverty, pervasive corruption in all walks of society, and many other failures that can be listed.

Re: Is India a failed State? or India is a failed State?

And what is mass starvation? What percentage?
India has excess of grains and exports in large quantities.

Besides failed state is defined as follows:

http://www.icrc.org/Web/eng/siteeng0.nsf/iwpList314/438B7C44BDEAC7A3C1256B66005DCAAB

The author Daniel Thürer, Dr. jur., LL.M. (Cambridge), is Professor of International Law, European Law, Constitutional Law and Administrative Law at the University of Zurich
"States in which institutions and law and order have totally or partially collapsed under the pressure and amidst the confusion of erupting violence, yet which subsist as a ghostly presence on the world map, are now commonly referred to as “failed States” or “Etats sans gouvernement”. However, neither expression is sufficiently precise. “Failed” is too broad a term, for, going to the opposite extreme, the aggressive, arbitrary, tyrannical or totalitarian State would equally be regarded as having “failed”
"
Also wikipedia has some info -

“Failed state is a controversial term intended to mean a weak state](State - Wikipedia) in which the central government](Government - Wikipedia) has little practical control over much of its territory.”

Re: Is India a failed State? or India is a failed State?

The Maoist insurgency dates back 40 years but is finally beginning to register on the national consciousness as a significant threat to India’s rural hinterland. The rebels have gradually expanded their influence to around 165 of the country’s 602 administrative districts in recent years forming a “red corridor” stretching from the southern tip of India all along its eastern half and up to Nepal, experts say.

Re: Is India a failed State? or India is a failed State?

silly billy, do you think India is a failed state?

yes or no answer please.

Re: Is India a failed State? or India is a failed State?

This was discussed in another thread. They do not control it, rather they are unsuccessfully trying to do so.

Re: Is India a failed State? or India is a failed State?

**Ajit Doval, a former head of India’s Intelligence Bureau, said the Maoists are spreading their “revolution”, making large parts “non-governable”. If the situation is allowed to continue, nearly half of India will become “Naxal-affected” by 2010, he warned.

Already, the government has acknowledged that the threat is impairing the economy, The Economist reported.**

Re: Is India a failed State? or India is a failed State?

I think we will live till 2010, and we can see for ourselves what the condition will be at that time.

Re: Is India a failed State? or India is a failed State?

I've been in India now for 5 months on a work project and all i can say is reality is always very different from perception and statistics.India is a great place to be in and despite stray incidents that one hears of in the news, like naxal attacks and minor bomb blasts people here are enjoying their lives, working hard and trying to improve theeir quality of life.Even the poor , once used to handouts from the govt. are enthusiastically joining the bourgeoise in the quest for economic superiority.I attended a 'Lifestyle' Expo recently and the latest shower stall/accessories that one finds in the west have been introduced here in India at similar prices as in the west. And, most of the people at the Expo were from the middle class!.Things are looking good and i give India 10 years to change the course of it's history.

Re: Is India a failed State? or India is a failed State?

Couldn't agree more. The same might go for Pakistan.Naxal attacks are found only in poorer states like Chhatisgarh ,Bihar and Orissa. The government is going to soon going to provide tax holidays to companies who would set up business in these regions. Naxalite attacks have decreased a lot over the years. Many have given up arms in search for a better life and the government have helped them for the same. The government until the last couple of years wasn't able to pay much needed attention to those areas because of the larger Kashmir dispute but now that there is peace in the valley the Naxalite problem is been dealt with.To those who want to know which countries are really failed states.please check out fundforpeace.org/programs/fsi/fsindex.php

Re: Is India a failed State? or India is a failed State?

hahah..!! good one dawg specially the last line of ur paragraph must watch link… lol, specially for those people who were totally failed to provide kasmhiriz their needs in recent earthquake and were begging in front of other countries. They dont have right to talk about india a failed state. First they must learn how to give independence to their own country who depends on other countries all the time even for basic needs… they must look themselves in the mirror first or should check ur link lol..!!

Re: Is India a failed State? or India is a failed State?

^ avoid finger pointing (dragging other countries into discussion unnecessarily) in future just discuss the issue where it lies.

Re: Is India a failed State? or India is a failed State?

The assistance was asked because we cared for them, and certainly the situation now is very stable and things will only get better with time. The whole region is being targeted by the federal and provincial government along with help from international investors and agencies for infrastructure development projects, and that can only boost our economy, just the way it happened with Hurricane Katrina. To laugh at others misery is really really sad. It’s really sick to know that our neighbours would stoop as low as to mock the poor plight the Kashmiri earthquake victims were in. And unlike India we are not leaving this region at God’s mercy but instead are allocating resources for it’s uplift. Also do not forget the thousands of refugees from Indian Occ Kashmir which cross into Azad Kashmir every year, that only speaks another story

Re: Is India a failed State? or India is a failed State?

I do not think sonalicool1 is laughing at the misery of others (I might be wrong, sonali can clarify), but at you guys, who are unable to get reasonable points for the discussion and resort to the same 2-3 points which are already being discussed in other forums and have been answered quite satisfactory, although it is different that some people decided that they do not want to understand.
Even here you can see the definition of Failed State and you will see Pakistan fits it quite well. Incidently net_dawg2005 has posted the Fund For peace web site which also shows exactly the same fact.
It seems to me that in this discussion as well some people have decided that they will want to understand, what ever proof is shown to them.

Re: Is India a failed State? or India is a failed State?

:hehe: choudharies of India and Pak throwing gobar at each other.. No wonder S. Asia tops the list of poor countries where millions sleep every night. Population growth, poverty, violence, corruption- one might be just better than the other.. forget about failed vs successful state, we both can’t even protect our citizens less talk about of providing shelter and clean water to drink. y we look at Korean and Chinese economies and copy them, if nothing else.. that might take away our miseries..

Re: Is India a failed State? or India is a failed State?

Now Staker is trying to divert the topic instead of facing the reality of their home land… Muslims in India are much better than those muslim who r killing their own muslim bros. on ur home land. Now the reality of Pakistan has been accepted by whole region and world… they know that Pakistan is the most dangerous place to live in where the muslims r killing their own muslims atleast this doesnt happen in India, thats y no one want to support Pakistan coz they dont want to wash their hand in dirty water. In todayz date Pakistan is totally failed and ignored state by other countries and what you have said “thousands of refugees from Indian Occ Kashmir which cross into Azad Kashmir every year”. This is your own imagination only or you must have read or heared on ur own pakistani media or collected data frm pakistan newspapers coz they r well trained to make this kind of imagination in a garage like room. Whenever u’ll open the TV and see PTV you will get this kind of news only.. they have brain washed all of you instead of telling the truth and reality of pakistan. You can see the PTV reputation compare to Indian media anywhere on the net. If something even happens wrong in India… Indian media do debates on that to find out the reality instead of hiding the reality. I would just like to tell you “Dont live only in dreams”. If u want to give better life to your own people and want peace for them then u must walk with your neighbour wot u called a failed state.. some or the other day you will have to go with failed state only.
