It’s not getting any better as well.
Malnutrition Crisis On Rise In India: World Bank
With one of the highest percentages of undernourished children in the world, the situation in India is abysmal, states a new World Bank report released Thursday. “India’s Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) needs to undergo significant changes to address the current malnutrition crisis,” states the report “India’s Undernourished Children: a Call for Reform and Action”. The prevalence of underweight children in India is among the highest in the world, and is nearly double that of Sub-Saharan Africa, the report says. In its assessment of what ails India’s efforts the report admits: “India’s primary policy response to child malnutrition, the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) programme, is well-conceived and well-placed to address the major causes of child under-nutrition.” “However, more attention has been given to increasing the coverage than to improving the quality of service delivery and to distributing food rather than changing family-based feeding and caring behaviour. This has resulted in limited impact.” India’s efforts to reduce the prevalence of malnutrition over the last decade have been small - the prevalence of underweight has only fallen from 53 percent to 47 percent between 1992-93 and 1998-99. “The need to re-examine the functioning of ICDS is an urgent one,” said Meera Shekar, World Bank senior nutrition specialist and co-author of the report.
Re: Is India a failed State? or India is a failed State?
In Dr Manmohan Singh's last year as finance minister, the government reported that poverty was down to 19 per cent, and tried to make us believe that its industrial liberalisation policies were percolating down. *An Oxfam report and studies by leading economists like Suresh Tendulkar revealed that due to inflation and contraction of the economy in the initial years of "liberalisation", simple economic logic says that poverty levels actually went up.

As many as 50 million girls and women are missing from India’s population as a result of infanticide and abortion - US House of Representatives, Committee on International Relations.
Re: Is India a failed State? or India is a failed State?
mate, pakistan is worse then india in almost all the figures
infant mortality rate: 70.45(india=54.63)
literacy: 48.7 (india=54.63)
life expectancy: 63.39(india=64.71)
% of population living under the poverty : 32%(india= 25%)
:)
there is no doubt, india has lots of problems. But first looks at your OWN figures and facts before u start jumping.
Re: Is India a failed State? or India is a failed State?
The World Bank says India's efforts to reduce the prevalence of malnutrition over the last decade have been small - the prevalence of underweight has only fallen from 53 percent to 47 percent between 1992-93 and 1998-99.
Obviously India's should stop obsessing with other countries, and address the acute problems of mass corruption, lawlesness, malnutrition and poverty which is making India a failed state.
Re: Is India a failed State? or India is a failed State?
silly billy u typing the same stuff again and again
so i will do the same as well :)
Pakistan
infant mortality rate: 70.45(india=54.63)

life expectancy: 63.39(india=64.71)

Re: Is India a failed State? or India is a failed State?
Thank you. As I said Indian’s should stop obsessing with other countries, and address the acute problems of mass corruption, lawlesness, malnutrition and poverty which is making India a failed state. Some Indian’s are at least facing upto the realities.
**India has the largest number of illiterates in the world **
Second, throwing numbers does not change the ground realities, I can also provide numbers where countries that you can’t even imagine are ahead of US..
Third you have no explanation for such huge desasters like mass starvations.. Your numbers don’t seem to add up… If we go by your numbers then not India but Pak should have mass starvations, malnutrition, infanticide, biggest slums etc… makes sense?
Re: Is India a failed State? or India is a failed State?
China is the fastest growing economy in the world, so we cannot forget it. India is the 2nd fastest growing economy so you cannot forget it. How many years behind do they leave Pakistan. I think that should be more important question for you.
BTW where did you get the 3 year figure, MELBGUY got his figures from the world factbook
Re: Is India a failed State? or India is a failed State?
I think you guys will never get it. These silly commnets have been addressed so many times with statistics from unbiased sources (Fact Book).
Please do not waste your time on India, we will do whatever is necessary to improve it.
Look at your country where there is no peace (one of the biggest producer of terrorists), poverty is rampant (which leads to the last point) , there is very low standard of education (never heard of any good pakistani university / college), no freedom (anytime a military general wants he declares a coup and overthrows a government - BTW how many times has this happened).
Please think about your country, before its too late (or is it already too late).
Re: Is India a failed State? or India is a failed State?
Seems like you are hurt the most, You see this is an International section of Bad Paki forum where Indans usually hang around, it is our duty to burst your bubble… This post is about India not pakistan, BD, SL, France Germany, Martians etc…yes you can include Ethopia because India is placed below Ethopia in Child malnutrition…
Now one more time can you tell us how come India has mass starvation deaths, the biggest slums in the universe, zilch infrastructure and how come us bad Pakis don’t? boggles the mind isn’t it, its fuzzy logic!!!
Re: Is India a failed State? or India is a failed State?
mate atleast we have upcoming industries that the whole world is taking notice. What has pakistan got??? Just look at the growth in indian IT, bpo, automobile, pharmacy sectors.
If pakistan is that far ahead of india, then how come no world media talks about pakistan the same way they talk about india. Why when they did the 2050 economies report, no one even mentioned about pakistan??? Pakistan’s population is more then russia and only 10% less then brazil. Yet they just talked about brics(brazil, russia, india, china)Goldman and sach talked abt those countries but there was not a single mention of pakistan anywhere.
Just for your information this is how the world will look in 2025 and 2050…
and the so called failed state india wouldnt be doing that bad by then:)
Re: Is India a failed State? or India is a failed State?
dont want to open a new thread about this, since this thread seems to be about India’s problems, heres a very depressing piece on the state of Muslims.
Re: Is India a failed State? or India is a failed State?
You see, you beat around the bush like all Indians when you have no answers…
Lets say that bad Pakis are way way way way down at the bottom and India is way way way way up there so up that its off the chart…happy now
NOW TELL US
How come only India has mass starvations we bad Pakis don’t
How come only India has the biggest slums in the universe we bad Pakis don’t
How come only India has malnutrition worse then Ethopia we bad Pakis don’t
How come only India has 800 million defecate out in the open we bad Pakis don’t
How come only India is teh AIDS capital of the world we bad Pakis are not
And teh list is endless, more can be added if you want…
