hmmm well my male friends reached out to hug me on a few occasions like on our graduation day and I didn’t push them away. It wasn’t like they wrapped their arms around me and we stood there for hours.. it was more like a pat on the back and just for a second. I didn’t feel as if I had sinned.

To each their own I guess… for some women, physical contact even to the extent of a handshake is haram. I don’t even think twice before shaking hands with a man. For some women, hugging brother-in-laws is also haram since they’re na-mehram. On the contrary, my BIL is more like a father figure to me and I just have to hug my praa whenever I see him!
