Ok I always thought this was a silly question. But I guess it isnt - not really. Look at what I came upon.
Those are people of whom the statement about the nations, both of jinn and men, who passed away before them, has also proved true; truly they were the lost. Everyone will be ranked according to what they did. We will pay them in full for their actions and they will not be wronged. (Surat al-Ahqaf: 18-19)
Beside s this, contrary to what some people suppose, people will not be forgiven and released from Hell after a given period of punishment for their wrong actions. Every unbeliever who enters Hell will remain in it for eternity, forever (Surat al-Baqara: 80-81)
As for the second verse - I always thought that people could leave hell if Allah willed it so? Im confused.
Not all translations mention ‘forever’. ie. Pickthal.
There is a hadith I recall that mentions dwellers of Hell being removed as coal and placed into the rivers of Jannah after their punishment. Don’t know how authentic though
Wait, I thought we will be forgiven if we repent? or does that above verse apply only to those who didnt’ repent on Earth?
Also, does one have to have thier punishment on earth to be punished and repent? can emotional turmoil count as punishment??
But if people repent what then? And I heard a story about so and so where Allah had mercy on that person. <<
the doors of repentance close upon seeing the angels of death; from what i have read personally, and heard from scholars. Therefore, the fear and terror on the day of the judgment will be unfathomable on those who have committed sins in this world, and are given the summary of their deeds in the left hand..
Is that so? Hmm. So a person cant repent after death? I honestly never knew that.
But I have heard of certain stories where people were in fact able to leave hell because of Allah’s mercy.
Plus what that about when a person goes to heaven he/she can choose a certain few other people to also got to heaven with them? I mean lets say those people are in hell, then the person can take them out of it -or not?
MQ: you are confusing with types of people in hell.
A muslim by beleifs can also be sent to hell as a punishment of his deeds in the world but that would be for a certain period of time (remember before ALLAH a day = 1000 years of worldy calender as per Quran if I remember correctly) BUT then again YES Allah's mercy can save such people.. May ALLAH save us from hell fire..
those who died without imaan will live there FOREVER.
there are multiple ayyahs in quran, and the ones i can think from the top of my head are in surah waqiyah..try reading the translation and the summary of this particular surah..
one cannot choose another person of course, since it's not upto the discretion of individuals. however, the children can pray for the forgiveness of their deceased parents, and through the virtue of their prayers, person's sins can be forgiven by Allah.
I was listening to one scholar some time ago and according to him the greatest blessings on an individual from Allah are the recitation of qalma at the time of death, and obedient children. come to think of it, there's a direct co-relation between the two indeed :)
Anwar-- yup I understand. So if a non believer is in hell he/she stays there forever.
But guys I know this for a fact that if a parent loses even one child in its childhood ie the child passes away - that particular child will then take the parents to Jannah.Correct me if I am wrong.
My own readings teach me that though Heaven is everlasting, Hell is like a hospital where patients are kept for a limited time to be cured of their spiritual ailments. A person can be transferred to Heaven after being cured of their spirtual diseases. It is actually a place of reformation. Read all of the attributes and names of Allah and you'll see that he is The Compassionate, The Merciful, The Most Forgiving, The Just, The Wise, The Loving, At-Tawwaah (Oft-Returning with Compassion: the Acceptor of Repentance,) among other things.
Yes he is also known as Ad-Daarr (The Inflictor of Punishment). But Allah decides who to forgive and who to punish. We can't assume anything.
earlier nations too thought that ppl shall not live in hell for ever....
they too thought that the punishment is limited to a certain time and then heaven awaits the....
but Quran tells us that this was (and is) a very very wrong assumption....
Quran 2:80-821
*And they say: Fire shall not touch us but for a few days. Say: Have you received a promise from Allah, then Allah will not fail to perform His promise, or do you speak against Allah what you do not know?
Yea, whoever earns evil and his sins beset him on every side, these are the inmates of the fire; in it they shall abide (forever). *
Quran 3:23-24
*Have you not considered those (Jews) who are given a portion of the Book? They are invited to the Book of Allah that it might decide between them, then a part of them turn back and they withdraw.
This because they say: "The Fire shall not touch us but for a few numbered days": For their forgeries deceive them as to their own religion. *
One has to believe in Hellfire, i.e., Jahannam, and that it is already created [and] now [it exists]. Allah ta^ala said the ayah that means: It is already prepared (Al ^Imran 133). It is the strongest and most immense fire Allah created. Its center is under the seventh earth. It lasts without an end. Allah ta^ala said the that ayah means: Allah damned the kuffar and prepared Hellfire for them in which they will stay everlastingly forever and they will not find someone to preserve them and no one to protect them from torture (al-’Ahzab 64).
Hellfire is levels "Darakat" Paradise is "Darajat".
The punishpent in hellfire is not emotional only, it's physicall as well.
Hell fire is everlasting, does not terminate (as some people claim such as Jahm Bin Safwan and such as the claim of Ibn Taymiah). Allah willed for Hellfire and Paradise to be everlasting.
Hellfire is an everlasting life for the kafir.
The Muslim will be in Paradise forever.
Allah ta^ala said: ((( Khalideena feeha Abadan ))).
