Is Hawk-eye a reliable solution for LBW decisions?

i found this information about hawk-eye interesting and decided to share it with guppies…any comments?

I think there is no harm to use technology to avoid conspiracy after every series that is very common these days.

What about giving a small 6" flat-screen/flat-panel monitor to the umpires so they can see the hawk-eye demonstrations as well.

if technology is available and reliable, it should be used.

what about excessive appealing these days and the time spent watching those lbw replyas...just curious....

  • hawk-eye i believe is a gr8 addtion to modern day cricket, its' close to perfect, i'm 100% for it*

Well at least it is better than umpires eye when it comes to making accurate LWB decisions.

Along with runouts, serious LWB appeals should also be forwarded on to the third umpire.

Sadiyah, LBW appeals were forwarded as an experiment during last ICC champions trophy. But only when the ground umpire was not sure about the decision.

Regarding Hawkeye, it can make better decision than the likes of Darrell Hairs and Asoka De Silvas.

i'd still oppose it even if it were 100 percent accurate all the time. umpires are such an essential feature of the game..

how would the players appeal for lbws? press a button?

Saby, sounds good to me. Doubtful LBWs in crucial matches should be referred to the third umpire.

I thought no-balls were added to the list where the third umpire can initiate contact with the ground umpires in case of an error. Not sure I read anything about LBW, but I can be wrong. Do you have a link?

Faisal pra, kadi saddi gul vee mun lawo. Here is the link.

No 3 Shoaib Malik (1) had the dubious distinction of being the first batsman in history to be ruled out lbw by the third umpire.

The No-ball thing you mentioned has taken effect since this videocon cup.

Hawkeye always give a close call out so I don't think its a good idea to have that for LBW's. Also a bad decision is part of the game and its fun to have the human element in the game. For run outs its okay cauz its 100% accurate (in most cases) but hawkeye is like animation based and who knows the accuracy of hawkeye itself. well that's just my two cents worth on this subject matter.

20 years from now, when cricket will be closely regulated by umpires wearing 3D screens in their sun-glasses with instant replays and whatnot, people will laugh at the thought that once upon a time, there used to be bad decisions in cricket just because the umpires were relying on their naked eyes for LBW ("How can they do it???").

*the guy who invented hawk-eye is from england, u/k/ he along with some commentators and cricket experts analysed his inventon and they concluded it was close to perfect. *

for a sec i thought u were refering to me :P

they can only be used if umpire is in doubt.. i dont think they can be accurate if the ball hits front or back pad, distance of batsmn from wicket and other things umpires take into account..

ya n u would rather prefer umpires ruining games n showing their bias for the white teams. n in any case hawkeye will alwayz be better then umpires even if the umpires r fair. in the final, hayden was out lbw.. the umpire gave it not out, he ended up scoring a 50. hawkeye would've given it, n we most probably would have won the match. i could keep giving examples, they happen way 2 often in today's cricket.

IS IT SO MUCH FUN?? THEN TODAY MUST HAVE BEEN GREAT FUN FOR U SEEING THE SKIPPER N HIS ASSISSTANT GO AS A RESULT OF 2 UTTERLY RIDICULOUS DECISIONS.
