Mst of people including me are now depending on it instead of reading books.Most of the people who used to read books or novels now seem to read few novels because our attention spam is shrinking.More and more people are trusting google now whatever comes on first page they go with it.Is google making us lazy and where it is leading us?

How can google make you lazy?.....it's just a search engine. Personally it's helped me save a lot of time. You can type anything in that little box and find references, different articles without wasting time looking for them in the library. Sometimes I can't remember different websites, and I just google the name and it pops right up.
I think watching movies instead of reading books is making people lazy, not google which basically again just find refrences for us.

can't really say about the lazy part... but it's certainly making some of us more incompetent. In the academic world, there's a debate about computing literacy (which is on the rise) versus information literacy (which is on the decline) because people tend to use superficial and easy search tools rather than an express effort to do research, evaluate results, organize / prioritize by relevance and quality of results etc.
So, I'd say that up to a certain extent, the superficial use of search engines like Google is making some people not apply their critical thinking skills - which perhaps can be interpreted as making them lazy.

Don’t get me wrong - I love google too, but day in and day out, I see students only use google for their so-called “research” while overlooking other sources of information including library databases. Besides, most people don’t even use all the features Google makes available for doing more enhanced searches.

but now you even have libraries online ... and articles ... so whatever offline information you can find offline, you can find it online too ... offline you might miss out some things ... but online you can get a lot of information altogether ... stuff u might not even have thought of ...
i just find it very convenient becuz it lets me work from the comfort of my house at any time of the day ... especially becuz i usually work at night ...
oh and i cant thank it enough for the clutter it has reduced on my desk!

LP and farrah, I'm not talking about physically going to the library - even as an academic, I only go to the library only when I really really need to, may be two times a year or so. What I'm saying is that many students these days don't even bother with online databases that are accessible through their library website to them even at thier homes, and they just use Google and Wikipedia as the main source of information. In the process, they miss out on important seminal information that isn't indexed by Google or hasn't been read by the person who edited the Wikipedia information page.
