Re: Is fear…
Peace Gora Kala
You asked what fear was and I gave you that … I didn’t justify it … but at the same time I didn’t say it was bad … fear as you claim is not good, but I don’t claim it to be bad in the sense that I believe fear can be rightly placed and wrongly placed.
You talk of the sense of possession being the cause of fear and use an example of a cadaver to demonstrate that a cadaver has no fear because it perceives no life. Had this argument been cogent then it would apply to God - God being the most Aware of His Life should according to argument be the most inclined to be afraid … Auzdubillah!!!
Quite frankly your argument of the cadaver is a forced argument and it presents no value to this discussion that you have initiated. There are many people who do not have fear - such as a reckless person - but his recklessnes neither benefits him for his life in this world runs short nor does it benefit those around him - unless of course they learn not to do things that he did.
Your question was about “fear” and to me it applies specifically to “living” those who are not living can’t count … those creatures such as plants - don’t count …
I believe God gave us fear but He also gave us wisdom … I do not consider it bravery to do something that one is not afraid of doing … I consider it bravery to do something “noble” when “fear” is present … To say that is “fear” wrong is to say “bravery” is also wrong …
For me bravery/courage/fortitude is an aspect of morality … (this links back to your initial post)
It is one of the 4 cardinal virtues Cardinal virtues - Wikipedia
Fear may be part of the nufs - but our nufs is still a part of us - we are not required to extinguish the aspects of the nufs - merely to conquer them with wisdom. Fear itself is not bad, but how we react to it - is what is called “morality”.
