Is Education idealized?

Do you think the concept of being “educated” is somewhat idealized in our world today?

Educated simply means completing a level of education, but there are all sorts of connotations (fair or not) attached to it…

I know many people who believe that there is a stark difference between an educated person and someone who’s “uneducated”…There’s a difference in the way they speak, behave with others, carry themselves, etc.

However, do you find that the line may be blurred nowadays?

Re: Is Education idealized?

People equate education with being cultured, but there is a vast difference between the two. University/college education is also very common as opposed to a few decades ago, but the old stereotypes still exist. I think you might find a correlation between higher education and someone who is cultured, but with the availability of resources via libraries and the internet, it's not a set rule. Personally, I thought many people in university were close minded and behaved as if there were children.

Re: Is Education idealized?

Education + upbringing tells you a lot more about how cultured a person is, than education alone.

Re: Is Education idealized?

education is over rated. period (not the grandma kind)

Re: Is Education idealized?

Correct: do you think the concept of being "educated" is somewhat idealized in our DESI SOCIETY today?*

Re: Is Education idealized?

You’re so funny. :hehe:

Re: Is Education idealized?

Yes.

Re: Is Education idealized?

I dont think it is idealized. It is really as important as people perceive it to be. Yes, with some people it may not have any affect on how cultured they are, but education is HUGE in our competitive world today. You will not get very far without it. So yes, if you do have the opportunity, yes pls do educate yourself.

Is Education idealized?

I think it is but only because being more educated is associated with having more opportunity to ultimately have more money and be better off. So in the sense of families looking for more educated girls or boys these days is a requirement because it's supposed to provide foundation for a comfortable life. I think that is why it is idealized. Although it is just as important Proto explained as well. Practically and realistically in the long run, yes, having a professional degree is crucial today with all of the advances and rising cost of living.

Although I also agree that the requirement of being educated is starting to become a bit of a stigma in our culture more so where people are only looking for doctors or something similar of the sort for their kids where it's making it more and more difficult to find good people because there are probably a lot of good people being over looked. I think people are just going off the practical and security aspects that having a professional degree provides. Whether your working or not, something to fall back in hard times like these.

Re: Is Education idealized?

I think some people should realize that education/being educated does not solely mean haven done academic level, university.
There are levels of education, and not everyone wants to do or can't do an academic study.
Doesn't mean that you are dumb or ambitionless or that you lack general knowledge.
And ofcourse having an university diploma doesnt make you superior or all wise.

Re: Is Education idealized?

The line is getting more blurred as time goes on imo

My SO didn't go to uni.. When I was a teenager it would have been unthinkable for my family to be supportive of me being with someone who doesn't have a degree.. To be fair it prob wouldn't have crossed my mind back then either..

My parents' siblings only married 'educated' ppl but over the past few years it's become more and more common to mix and mingle with business ppl who have less of an academic background..

Re: Is Education idealized?

Very true!

Re: Is Education idealized?

Agree, also people think that educated = not Jahil, unfortunately this isn't always the case.

Re: Is Education idealized?

Met axlot of smart people without degree.

Re: Is Education idealized?

I would love to get Uni level education, not to get any ratings or job or "independence" but entirely for the sake of education.

Re: Is Education idealized?

I don't got no university degree but do have college diploma..but Allah ka shukar hai..i have always been blessed with good job and always worked hard. I've taken care of whole household when i was 20 fully and 14 when i started working. Couldn't do university type of education mainly coz of responsibilities + i tend to be one of those street smart people. I've given presentations to executives, GMs etc. They do ask me..what school did i graduate from?..i tell them..i don't got no paper to prove my worth. But if ya think..i am graduated by ya're standard..then i must have done pretty good for myself.

Re: Is Education idealized?

Mehh...Overated.

Re: Is Education idealized?

@OP. yo..just thought of anotha thing here. Education is idealized rightly so coz this should be given importance. I am not saying education is not important. But to apply that knowledge fully is the key!. If ya're not gona apply that knowledge..then ya pretty much wasted money. Learning good manners and proper adequate are education as well. Unfortunately..most of people do lack such quality. And to be honest with ya yo. People don't judge ya by degree..but measure by honesty, good manners and respect.
