When I first told my mum about it she sed not to worry it’s harmless and that theres goodness in the peel. When I told my sister in conversation she and my sis in law sed not to allow her to eat it due to chemical sprays used coz of pesticides and it may not be safe. So now I don’t like giving it her with the pesticides and sprays thing running in my head. but my daughter who is 2years is so adamant in eating it if she sees an orange all she wants is the peel to eat not the actual orange. The oranges are always on display when she visits her grandparents so once she sees it she goes into a tantrum and I have no choice sometimes but to give it her. I have no problem giving it her as long as I no it’s safe and not harmful in any way. If any one could give me some advice on this I would be very grateful.
Re: Is eating orange peel safe for babies/toddlers?
How old is she? How deep is she biting into the peel?

She is 2 years old. When I cut the orange into segments she eats all of the peel and leaves the actual orange behind. If I cut the orange without the peel and give it her like that she then starts her tantrum.

awww. she is sho cute ..
check with your doctor. But I honestly dont think that there is any danger, especially that she is digesting the peel well (no tummy aches I hope)

peel the orange then use yellow food color to give it the looks of orange peel back. You have to learn to tricks the kids not to give in to their tantrum.
My kids loved chicken and used to refuse to eat any other meat so I and my wife used to call mutton poo-la-o , chicken chawal which they loved . Beef nihari was chicken nihari for them and they would gladly eat it. :)
Re: Is eating orange peel safe for babies/toddlers?
my kid's paed always says... that if a kid starts to eat non edible things, it usually points to a deficiency in its body... like kids eating soil have a calcium deficiency etc
ask ure doc... eating entire peels cant be too good i would say :/
Re: Is eating orange peel safe for babies/toddlers?
Yes, if you google it it seems like many kids do this, and it usually points to a vitamin or mineral deficiency.
If s/he is doing this, try to use only organic oranges, so the pesticides issue is not there.
