Re: Is eating meat moral?
We are omnivores, but does that mean we should eat all meats? Alcohol is vegetarian but does that mean it is morally good to drink? For me morals can't be split away from my faith - that tells me what is "good" and what is "bad" ... Had I used my own intellect I would have concluded pork is like any other meat if I favoured the eating of meat and had I chosen vegetarianism then I may have still stumbled on the alcohol issue. Isn't it so much easier to be a follower?
Re: Is eating meat moral?
I eat all kinds of meat, even beef. (PS I was born to Hindu parents).
However I must confess, I cringe when I see animals & chicken suffer when humans kill them for their meat.
As a child I did leave eating chicken for several months, when I saw the shop keeper cut it's neck and put it in a basket. It fluttered and blood was all over - it was horrible.!!
Some days I go through doubts about killing animals - but the urge to eat meat overcomes this unease & moral issues.
Re: Is eating meat moral?
when i eat meat, i kill that animal once..
when vegetarians eat veggies, they are taking away food from the mouths of innocent little bunnies, they are starving the little bunnies and lambs to death...shameful.
anyway guys...I have questioned it myself at times.
at minimum though, i try to avoid meat, dairy eggs if i know the sources are places where animals are mistreated...
and by the same token, i have issues eating vegetables and grains which are planted and harvested by abused labour..
and sadly both are hard to avoid

Re: Is eating meat moral?
Eating meat is destructive to the planet due to the vast energy input it takes to produce one kg of meat. I still love it.

I think Peter Singer makes an excellent point.

Why shouldn’t animal rights be equivalent to human rights? When I first read it in college, I really couldnt find a flaw in his logic, other than to say that God ordained that we should eat them. Now this makes perfect sense within the context of the food chain, but we really aren’t within the food chain any longer. We dont hunt, we breed and process food. We have diversified our food supply to the extent that we can live perfectly well without any meat at all. God also said we should be compassionate towards all creatures, and so even as a Muslim, I find it difficult to reconcile eating meat and causing creatures to suffer, when we no longer belong within the food chain, and have multiple other sources of nutrition that don’t require the suffering of any animal.
I mean, all bias aside, can anyone say they can justify the slaughter of so many animals when we dont need to?
