So as the thread suggests, is it moral to kill/take life of another living being (animals in this case) to feed yourself? Same issue with vegetables, afterall they are also considered “alive” in the scientific sense.
Personally, I see no way out of it, since otherwise we’d all starve. Still, I wanted to get some thoughts from the group here.
Now, please DO NOT bring religion into this (ie its ok because Allah/God/Ram said so). There is a reason I didn’t post this thread in the religion forum.

Of course its ok, Its SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST!
I understand survival of the fittest - its just the hand nature dealt us. But to an extent though, right? I mean obviously you won't condone taking something away from another human lets say only because you were stronger, right?

Isn't that EXACTLY what's happening in Pakistan? :p
Seriously though, it depends. Like if civilization falls apart for some reason (because of some global disaster or something) won't it be every man for himself?
Remember the basic food chains we were taught in science/ecology at our junior school? Our ecosystem has been made in such a way that it creates a balance. If we stop eating either meat or even plants - it would be like a wild jungle and probably in a decade or so time mankind could become extinct and it would just be a planet of carnivores left. (The poor herbivores would already be gone way before).
she'r agar jaanwar se dostii kar le to khaayegaa kia? ghaas phoos? insaan to phir bhi **'ashraf ul maKhlooqaat'**** hai! [he is at the top of the food chain...*HE NOT SHE* ;) hehe] :D**

Do u have to bring politics into everything? yes I know pak is going through a rough patch but I don't want to discuss that in every damn thread.
Suggest an alternative to eating living things, please? A cube of salt might have numerous colonies of live viruses or bacteria on it.
Well there is no alternative as I mentioned in my OP.
Seems like we romanticise nature but in reality nature is fairly brutal and no so hunky-dory.
Some people are fruitarians and will not eat living things ... they will however eat eggs, seeds, nuts and fruit so long as they have dropped from the tree by themselves ... Needless to say they probably pray for earthquakes, or torrents all the time.
Perhaps you missed the :p
Normally, it represents humor
Oh, I saw the green face and thought u might have gas or something. No worries bro. All is good.

LOL. Or maybe they just push fat people down to cause a mini-quake.
I would argue that eating meat is less moral than eating non-animals. For me morality is measured by the situation at hand ... The eating of human flesh would be moral if there was no other food source and provided the person died without being killed. The fact that we eat meat and enjoy it by hunting and killing living creatures is not the mark of higher beings. Although the food chain insinuates that the top animal should be a violent carnivore ... this would be relevant for those animals who don't have conscience. Since we have a conscience and can entertain the idea of morality it would be better to survive without harming others on the basis that we would not want to be harmed ourselves by any creature.

?
I consider animals and plants to be the same. Both are living creatures. So subscribing to that idea, I don't see your point.

Psyah, did you see the thread about "lab-grown" meat? What would be your views about it? Also, I've seen that you are quite knowledgeable about Islam. If commercially available, can a Muslim eat that meat (in normal circumstances)?
As long as it is not cultured with some haram animal , you might have seen that this article suggests that they cultured it in the lab using pig cells.
if they culture it using some fruits and vegetables cells then it would be totally halal. Like they sell vegetarian meat products in super markets made of soya beans.
Quran and hadees has specified certain classes of animals which are halal and certain way of slaughtering animals after which you can eat them.
