a way to console ourselves for death of our dear ones?

If there was no concept of ‘life after death’ and no hope to see our dear ones who departed from the world, how could we coup with the concept of eternal departure?

I know historically, there have been societies who don’t have concept or belief in life after death and still there are people who consider it useless religious theory. How such people could / can coup with the eternal departure of their dear ones?

i personally think fear of death is the primary reason for belief in God and religion. to understand the concept of eternal departure is too much for us to handle as we are programmed to live, jut like other animals as well. we need assurance that we will live forever. i don’t believe in life after death but i would rather accept what i think is true than accept false assurance of eternal life.
