Do Pakistanis in the UK and US replicate class hierachy? What are your observations?
Re: Is cllassism an issue among Pakistanis and Pakistani Brits/ Americans?
I don't observe so much.
Re: Is cllassism an issue among Pakistanis and Pakistani Brits/ Americans?
What "class" are you referring to?
What "class" are you referring to?
Any class. Start with the middle professional class.

not really.
i am just saying that i don't see it as being as important in the west as it is in paksitan.
Re: Is cllassism an issue among Pakistanis and Pakistani Brits/ Americans?
i dont get the question
Re: Is cllassism an issue among Pakistanis and Pakistani Brits/ Americans?
nope the pakistanis in the uk dont replicate class hierachy, we live in a classless society where everyone dresses a like, poverty is relative

In my circle of friends, relatives I didn't see any "classism" in Pakistan, neither in US. But people do make friends with colleagues of their profession (doctors have more doctor friends then lets say cabbies and vice versa) but not because of "classism" but because of "shared interests".
Re: Is cllassism an issue among Pakistanis and Pakistani Brits/ Americans?
Okay, I would like to pretend there is no classism among desies in Chicago. But that would be wishful thinking. There are just TOO many of us here now. So, SOME of the mentality has filtered over.
You see more of the same kind of people mingling and thats just because birds of a feather flock together. Doctors befriend other doctors, engineers, lawyers, etc. I see a lot of rich wives' circles here too. Dont me wrong, its not very pronounced but its there...a certain separation.
Re: Is cllassism an issue among Pakistanis and Pakistani Brits/ Americans?
I dont!
Re: Is cllassism an issue among Pakistanis and Pakistani Brits/ Americans?
its there in bigger cities whether ppl c it or not
its not that doctors families only mingle with other doctor families but the SOME ppl who r more well off think they r upper class n therefore treat others as lower class
its not in the way u c in movies .. its not obvious but its there
as my mom says u can leave pakistan but u cant change pakistani mentality
not sayin that all ppl r like this at all but there r few who ruin it for everyone

So you see this selective socializing as a problem. Why is it a problem?

Explain how we live in a "classless society"?
Re: Is cllassism an issue among Pakistanis and Pakistani Brits/ Americans?
u shouldnt become friends with someone becuz of there job.. the money they have
those things can be there one day n gone the next
just look at the teachings of islam and the way the prophet(pbuh) lived
then u will not judge ppl on basis of monetary attributes

In your opinion, do most Pakistanis live by this value? Why/why not?
Re: Is cllassism an issue among Pakistanis and Pakistani Brits/ Americans?
I would like to think so
becuz my family n other close families around me base relationships not on social status but just on common interests
n sumtimes if u live in small city there r only few families anyways so everyone is friends with everyone
like we all get together for eid n have a dinner together
Re: Is cllassism an issue among Pakistanis and Pakistani Brits/ Americans?
when people say they dont observe classes and live without being classifying here in UK.
I would say some of the Pakistani origin guys belong to professional middle class here, and many to middle class un educated lot. and in elite class club some who managed to mingle with that class hardly get mixed with the other two here.
so people do live in classes here, its just as people mostly from middle class they hardly know there is any other class exist among Pakistanis.
