Being away is tough. A number of people on this site have faced the same and you may want to reach out to people here to get perspective on how they coped. Make new friends where you are, that will help.

For networking if you went to school here, get involved in alumni organization activities. If not look up for industry related professional groups in the area, on linkedin, and on meetup.

My experience with desis in general has not been great either. Even if desis were helpful, or there were friends and family around, don’t limit or focus on such a small segment for networking.

Even here on GS I tried to get suggestions from couple of people who live in same city but couldn’t get something positive. I just moved from Toronto to Calgary so it’s totally a new city, new people and if I can find anybody on GS who can guide me than that would be awesome.
