It goes against an extreme cultural and moral norm, but is anyone or does someone know of anyone in this situation?

I know two here in the UK who were but have since patched things up.. One was a girl at my school who left home at 16.. Now in her mid-twenties she has contact but never actually went back to live with the family.. The other was a guy who wanted to marry a girl his parents didn't approve of.. The girl was desi as well but his dad in particular had a problem with her.. They married anyway and for 5/6 yrs had no contact with his parents but now they're on speaking terms again..
In both cases the siblings kept contact with them whilst the parents didn't.. Think this helped a lot..

Yup..I have been a few times with my parents..specially my dad..coz with my mom it is not possible..coz she will keep calling and chatting with me like a parrot no matter how mad we were at each other a few days before...

My dad quit talking with my middle sister when she married my bro-in-law..my dad did not approve of the rishta (20 year age difference between the two...yikes!), he missed out on his first grandchild's birth, and didn't see my niece until she was 3 years old...My sister had always been my dad's favorite, I think it broke his heart when she decided to marry my bro-in-law....when Papa finally came around, alhamdullilah, he left all this bitterness over the union behind, and in the end, it was this sister who was holding his hand when he passed away....

Just remembered a couple more.. A guy my brother knows wanted to marry a white girl and all hell broke loose.. The whole family cut him off completely and he ended up getting married to her anyway in a church.. no muslim ceremony, no nikah, nothing.. still no contact and the couple now have a baby :(
One of my uncles (mum's brother) in the eighties lived with his gf (also desi) in Russia then the UK but when they said they were marrying my grandparents cut him off.. Few yrs down the line it was patched up but they ended up divorced.. He had an arranged marriage after that (to another divorcee) and that is going well..

Yes. I was estranged from my mum for nearly a year justafter I got married (6 mnths after)m nothing to do with my marriage but more to do with others filling mums head with crap. It was the worst time of my life. In the end hubby called my mum just before Ramzan n eventually we got talking again. The relationship has never been the same though. Such a shame as mum was a single parent from wen I was very little n it was just me mum n my sister.
I still feel kinda estranged and it huirts. May Allah give us all mohabbat in our families. Ameen

No, not with parents. I think its kinda difficult when you're living at home. But I've some moments with my mum during my teens when she was very unfair, where I thought I would never speak to her again. But it didnt last long enough.
