i don't see what is so wrong with giving 20 marks for Hifz-e-Quran
i mean all over the world, in all academic institutions, applicants are given extra weight at admission for something non-academic they might have done - such as doing community work or being involved in sports etc etc...

Agree with Auntynumber1 and Iconoclast here.
If there are quotas for many non-academic skills and other religious indiviuals, Hifz e Quran should be included in it. It is also a skill, requires time and efforts and test of brain capacity.
P.S. Off topic but still oppose the place of birth/domicile or race, sex, color etc. as the reasons for quota system. These are not 'skills' and do not require an individual's 'efforts' and 'time'.
P.S. 2- And FYI- A handicapped quota is also allowed in some places on humanitarian ground only.

You have to understand that this thread has nothing to do with "Quran and Islam Bashing" yet it is an effort to limelight a social evil that has been ingrained into Pakistani society for ages, hence it must be rooted out right now ----- or it will be too late for all of us.
It has everything to do with Quran and Islam... anyone think otherwise needs to get some info on the quota system in Pakistan for minorities and one would have to know the importance of Hufaaz... i am sure, there are plenty in this thread who would not waste a minute to kill a hafiz ( either by tongue or weapon) because his only crime is that he have memorized the whole Quran...

Are you a bad muslim or a good muslim, Allah and you, yourself is the judge for that, not me... but as far as i am concerned, i believe, who ever have memorized Quran and is practicing muslim is better than a muslim who only know a sura or two and only prays on Juma or Eid...
It is same as a man take bath twice a day a keep himself clean is better then a person who seldom take bath and is smelly....
Now who is being zealous, the one who have opened the thread and is trying to find all kind of evils in Hifz???

If you are for removing 20 points for a hafiz then I am sure you are also pro for removing ANY quota for ANYONE, ANYWHERE whether its colleges or govt jobs.

And that exactly is the bottom line here ----- i.e there must not be any quota system, preference on the basis of religion, ethnic background, gender, creed and etc ----- or else we might have another Bangladesh on our hands in years to come.

^ I agree, we should remove ALL quota for ANYONE on ANY BASIS, no promoting/additional marks for anyone for any achievement. Let merit decide who gets to get admission in what field.

Even the Muslims are discriminated against based on where they were born in Pakistan. Do not forget we still have quota system for govt. jobs and admission in govt. owned professional colleges and universities.

Between you and myself; there is a clear hiatus of intellect, reading, writing, comprehension skills and the faculty of mind by which one knows and understands; hence it is pointless for us to keep discussing this topic unless you are willing to have some rational answers regarding significance of the individual preferences on the basis of religion and evils of quota system in Pakistan.
