Is a FOIL shaver BAD for the face (LADIES)???

OK, so someone tried this, but we suspect that it may not be good for delicate skin on the a ladies face, rather than rough mans face.

I know some girls in Pakistan who use an epilator (WITHOUT a proper face attachment - so basically they use the same leg hair removing attachment on their faces) and I’m guessing its bcos of that they have rough prickly faces.

Anyhow, not talking about epilator here, talking of a foil shaver. With this the blades do not actually touch the face bcos it has that foil layer, but would it be bad for your face / hair re-growth in the long term?

Your views, please…

Women tend to have fine "downy" hair.. and a foil shaver wud basically scrape the skin badly :( threading... or bleach :)

Aaaah, wise words indeed. Thanks, i'll pass it on.

Ouch! Why dont they just thread?

Re: Is a FOIL shaver BAD for the face (LADIES)???

These are "Maadrun" girls you knooooow, why thread when they can use maadrun technaalaageey????

An epilator on the face isn't a great idea either... an epilator is made for thick/coarse hair! This can infect the hair folicles..

Re: Is a FOIL shaver BAD for the face (LADIES)???

Actually a foil shaver is what the clinic where I had my IPL treatments recommend patients (including ladies) use in between sessions as threading and waxing etc are all not allowed since the root of the hair has to be intact for the IPL to work.

At first I was a bit hesitant to use mine as I just kept thinking I would end up with some kinda 5 o'clock shadow like guys but it works fine. Luckily now I no longer have to use it since I have so much reduction that I can go without using the shavor in between IPL sessions.

Not sure about an epilator - wouldn't that hurt far more than threading?

Re: Is a FOIL shaver BAD for the face (LADIES)???

Threading is best 4 ladies face

Re: Is a FOIL shaver BAD for the face (LADIES)???

I read it as FOIL SHALWAR :smack:

Brit Chick, that's if it's and absolute MUST.. if possible during IPL sessions all forms of hair removal are discouraged. :)

Others, please stick to threading, bleaching and if u must waxing for the face..

Re: Is a FOIL shaver BAD for the face (LADIES)???

Er, well it kinda is a must during the initial stages cos surely if you were that 'unhairy' then you wouldn't be having IPL in the first place :p

As long as you leave the root intact and only remove any hair above the skin surface then it doesn't matter, unfortunately it pretty much rules out all methods apart from shaving.

That's not what I meant :) I meant the stages inbetween sessions.. if it's an absolute must that u remove the hair then it's best not to pluck it out from the root as that's what's worked upon. But if u can try an avoid removing it.

and where do u get the idea that ladies' facial skin is delicate while mens' is rough? what kinda cavemen do you hang out with? hint..its not the skin

I don't get the hint, pls explain, unless u mean its the hairs that make the faces rough.

Pretty sure most men's faces r not as soft and smooth as ladies. They have larger pores, creating a rougher surface. Perhaps we can measure this with some calipers.

yup, the rough surface is due to the hair, men naturally have more oily skin as well btw, Most men may have ruined their facial skin by treating it like crap, exposure to elements, sun damage, no sunscreen etc ..plus the daily shaving ritual does a number on hydrolytic film on the skin, making the skin dry, but that is not the natural state. Men;s skin is 15% thicker, but thickness has nothing to do with being soft and smooth, larger pores do nothing in the 'delicate' department, men have oilier skin and have better blood supply etc as well, but you used the term "delicate"..on any given day a man's facial skin is in more need of tlc than a woman's it has been damaged more than a woman's and is in a more delicate condition.

you want to test glide your finger on a man's (preferably someone you know) face just above the area where the facial hair are and see for yourself..make sure it is somsne ho has not damaged skin due to major sun exposure etc.

^ I tested the husband before i wrote the previous answer! Thats why i noticed the pores! He's no caveman but he doesn't bother with moisturiser anymore unless force is used.

I reckon men have made their faces less delicate by the various shaving mechanisms they use on it. So if we use these roughening implements, we shall also get rough skin. (That explains the epliator prickly effect then!)

So ladies, to conclude, do not use contraptions on your face!!!

Sara - go specsavers...

Thanks to Gina, Brit, Lush B, for your responses, and X2 the man who made us realise, that if u remove your facial hair like a man, your face will end up like a mans...

Re: Is a FOIL shaver BAD for the face (LADIES)???

No you still did not get the point. and if anyone is getting the idea that if you remove facial hair like a man your face will end up like a man, then they need to reread what I said.

to touch a man's face may seem rough because of the hair. if you are focused on the skin only then forget about hair and talk about skin, because when you touch you are touchign skin and hair both..you are getting a mixed texture and to say that skin is rough is not right, because its not the skin, its the hair.

now unless woman grows a beard as thick as a man's its not going feel the same to touch as a man's face.

and aside from men's skin being 15% or so thicker and in general oilier, there is no major distinction.

smooth and delicate are not the same thing first of all..

while a case can be made that the skin (mind it we are not talking how the face feels to the touch due to hair) is basically just as smooth if it is equally well taken care of.

speaking of how delicate it is, in its natural state a man's facial skin while being as smooth as a woman's skin is able to take more because it is about 15% thicker.

but due to that shaving it is in a more delicate condition so it actually needs more tlc then women's skin.

summary

skin can be just as smooth
skin+beard texture feel is not the feel of the skin..
men's skin is thicker..does not mean less smooth
men's skin faces more trauma then womens' and is typically in a more delicate/fragile condition. hence the sensitive skin shaving gels and creams.

Re: Is a FOIL shaver BAD for the face (LADIES)???

man some guys have skin thats a million times better than womens, clear and smooth adn all. envy
