is 3 weeks enough?

hi everyone!

I have a close cousin that’s getting married in April, I don’t live in Pakistan, but we’ll go there about little more than 3 weeks before the wedding.. I’m very picky about my clothes and i want to make all my clothes from scratch, i meaning i want to buy the kapra myself and get some kaam done on it.. is 3 weeks enough time to both get the kaam and stitching done? help please!******

Re: is 3 weeks enough?

Not enough at all. You can get ready made clothes from PSFD and no worries about being picky because so am i but there will be so much variety that you will be able to like something for sure.

Re: is 3 weeks enough?

Heck no its not!

but you know, at least in Lahore theres soooo many places you can shop from that you don't even need to go through the hassle of making it from scratch that it is very rare for u to not find something u like

Re: is 3 weeks enough?

yes it is. I got it done in less then 3 weeks. kaam, kapra all from scratch ... that too my wedding dress and trousseau.
Ofcourse you also have the option of ready made and/or pre-embroided suits that can be tailored to your fit.

Re: is 3 weeks enough?

um.. what's PSFD? and where is it located? i'll be in karachi.. i don't know any good stores i could get ready made clothes from! :(

Re: is 3 weeks enough?

Then go to The Forum @ Karachi. Somebody frm karachi wl be able to guide u with the address.

Re: is 3 weeks enough?

okay, will do
none of my dresses will be very heavy kaam.. i want something like this;

can this (minus the dupatta) be made in 3 weeks/20 days?

Re: is 3 weeks enough?

What part of NO you are not getting?! :p Lolz. J/K

But yah not possible. Stitchers are taking more than a week and you are wanting a fancy outfit ready in 3 weeks, not possible my friend unless you are lucky to find someone who can adjust it for you somehow.

Re: is 3 weeks enough?

^ hahaha.. okay, i guess it's just my wishful thinking****!:P i i'll just get something ready made then!

thank you maham for your help anyway :D

Re: is 3 weeks enough?

You may be able to get it done in less than 3 weeks/ Its not impossible. Try Kehkashan and Gulf and give them a week for the kaam so you can get it ready in 3 weeks (they won;t get it ready in 1 week). I know there are kaam walas in Hyderi market who take 10 days for teh kaam. I have had kaam done myself and it looked gorgeous. Try PLK wedding dresses at Tariq Road and Rim Jhim in Clifton for unstiched clothes that you can get stiched (from the same place usually within a week. For redaymadestufftry The Forum in theClifton area, boutiques in the Zamzama area and Park Towers in Clifton.

Re: is 3 weeks enough?

thank you! i'm thinking of just asking my cousin do get the kaam done and then get the stitching done when i'm in pakistan.. but i'll look into the forum, zamzama and park towers as well! :)

Re: is 3 weeks enough?

i did my wedding shopping including the barat and waleema dress +all the bari and jahez dresses in 22 days from karachi :D...only 1 dress and my waleema dress were ready made ,and i got all the other made on order.. teh trick is dont put all your eggs in the same basket... dont get all teh dresses made from the same place :D

Re: is 3 weeks enough?

so there might be hope!! :D the mehndi and shadi dress won't have much kaam on then so i might get them made when i'm there.. :)

Re: is 3 weeks enough?

well me and my mother bought and designed and some got embriodery done on my clothes for my jahez (101 clothes) plus what my other family members clothes and gave all to the darzi under 12 days and got half of it back before departure and just ordered my gharara and then i got my fiance to posted all the remaining clothes to me including my gharara after 3 months ( the gharara took long )
i gave all my dowry clothes to one tailor he gave the remaining clothes as the promised date ... i think it depends which time of the year you go in too

and let me tell you i am reeeeaaaaaallllllyyyyy choosy bride especially when it comes to designing my clothes and ordering jewellery
i made alot of my heavy/ dressy dresses (including my shadi and mehndi ka jora) from scratch

Re: is 3 weeks enough?

i think it depends on whether you have a plan for those three weeks. I'm sure you will not spend all those three weeks only shopping. You will need some time to settle like a day or two when you land and towards the end some time to re-juvinate to look pretty for the wedding. So keep in mid two weeks instead of three.

Do you now all the shops you will be visiting.

Have a list ready of what exactly you need like

• Clothes for
o Mehendi /Sangeet
o Marriage
o reception

• Jewellery for
o Mehendi / Sangeet
o Marriage
o Reception

• Shoes

• Accessories like :
o Bindi
o Bangles
o Purse

Keep print outs of the styles that you want so it will be easier as well. Ask your cousin to mark down all the places she went to shop for her wedding , it should be much easier.
