Can’t get them round…help!
Re: Irregular Roti Shapes
i can't either. who cares. as long the roti taste good..does it really matter? lol. i usually get mine in this funny square shape.
Re: Irregular Roti Shapes
use round plate to cut the shape of the rotis :D
okay the trick is to not zor dena at the center of the roti while bellaning. keep ur hands light , dont press hard and make sure the roti is properly dusted with flour before bellaning.
Re: Irregular Roti Shapes
I was actually considering buying a giant cookie cutter, or using a round cake pan to get the shape ![]()
another question: what do you add to the roti flour mix..–salt etc?
Re: Irregular Roti Shapes
just a pinch of salt and water (ofcourse).
Re: Irregular Roti Shapes
It took years of practise to finally get them round ... and I can't give you advice - just keep practising! They still go the odd shape sometimes. my parathas are also coming out round now.
Re: Irregular Roti Shapes
Women making Roti, what a sight!!
I think I just discovered a twisted fetish in my subconscious. ![]()
Re: Irregular Roti Shapes
Swith to pita bread. Theyre always round. :) Women in my family gave up on rotis the moment we landed here. Since then nobodys cared. So pita bread zindabaaaaaad.
Re: Irregular Roti Shapes
yea we do that too…naan or whole wheat pita bread. The thing is, my hubs tasted my mom’s homemade mani..and he fell in love with it…soooo I’m trying to get a handle on the whole mani making thing…![]()
Re: Irregular Roti Shapes
When I make roties they always turn out round. But I am not sure how to help you. I think though it depends a lot on when you make the dough into the original ball. Make sure tis round right then, :p
Re: Irregular Roti Shapes
I think its one of those things that you keep doing wrong as long as you keep trying not to do it wrong. Just keep practicing and dont worry about how round they come out. Or why not just make them in the paratha shape i.e. squarish with rounded edges?
I've noticed when rolling the dough with a bailan with each roll you also let the roti move clockwise a bit. That way you reach all corners evenly.
Re: Irregular Roti Shapes
i don’t like naan ![]()
dude, i don’t know…for me it’s hit and miss ![]()
Re: Irregular Roti Shapes
It's all just practise practise practise and the passing of time. You'll notice you're improving after a while.
Re: Irregular Roti Shapes
Hinna first of all concentrate on the basic that is kneading the flour, mix teh water and a pinch of salt in it and then after a couple of punching and getting it fully mixed, leave it out for 10 mins and then come back to it.. the atta will feel like butter and would be easier to handle n finish the kneading of dough... mnever try to make roti with the freshly kneaded dough becuase it strecthes very rapidly and won't give a round shape to a roti.. alrite, the next step is to make a paira(you know what i am talking about)..paira should be well rounded to get a round shape of roti meaning you should round it well using your hands while applying a lil pressure by using your finger tips in the middle and also on the sides going round in a shape, then get it in a flattened shape by using bailna... and before putting it on tava, hold it in your hands(apply some oil if you want to avoid stickiness) and do the clap clap thing by switching the roti in both hands... and to put it on tava, put in an angle where the bottom side goes first and the full fledge roti.. seems pretty hard but in fact its not, and practice will eventually lead to a round shape roti... hopefully you will find it helpful :-)
Re: Irregular Roti Shapes
That was very helpful! Thanks a bunch
