Over a period of time, I feel the iron has become all grimy-sticky type. Maybe its because of all the different type of clothes, or the different temperatures used to iron those clothes etc. I’ve been looking for iron cleaners but people at walmart always look at me in a funny way if I ask for one :s Any names/ home remedies to clean the iron plate?

My mom used to clean the Iron by dipping a soft sponge in a mixture of vinegar and Soda Bi carb .. she would leave it on the iron for a couple of minutes before scrubbing it clean .. that cleaned most of the roughage away ...
and then after it was roughly cleaned , mom would turn on the iron to its medium heat setting .. meanwhil take a piece of newspaper and sprinkle some sand or salt which ever is readily available , on the newspaper and then iron it slowly , so that the newspaper and salt/sand would absorb/ collect all the residue from the vinegar and soda bi carb ..
and the iron would be left clear and clean .. try this process it might work ..
Though i must mention that she didnt do the sand thing with our steam iron coz once we tried and clogged the steam holes :( .. so be careful when you do this stuff ..

Why do you feel it's become dirty, is it leaving some sort of residue on your clothes?

it's ttime to buy a non-stick iron...investing in a good quality iron pays off over time :)

Not really, but i can see the plate has become kinda grimy-sticky. Which is because of the high temperature which is sometime used for pure cotton clothing...

there is a chemical solution available in Pakistan but i forgot its name. My father gave it and it works like magic You put it few drops on damp cloth or cotton and then just clean iron and all dirt goes. I will ask Abu about its name.

Most of the steam irons do come with self cleaning mode. See if you have one in your iron.
